Why is my dog peeing often with mucus after surgery and amoxicillin?

Amoxicillin usually does not cause dogs to become lethargic or have decreased urine output. It can sometimes cause a decrease in appetite. The symptoms you described seem typical of a UTI. Other differentials would be kidney disease or dehydration from not drinking. If Suzy is not improving on the Amoxicillin, I recommend that you take her back to the vet and have them do a full urinalysis with culture and possibly bloodwork to make sure her kidneys are functioning properly. They should also check her hydration status and administer fluids if needed. Sometimes I have to put dogs on a different antibiotic like Bactrim to get rid or their UTI. Or the UTI is due to a yeast and they need an antifungal agent to treat it. Your veterinarian can switch her meds if needed. The urine culture will tell you what drugs the infection is sensitive to. This looks like a pretty normal urine puddle for a dog Romeo's size. I think it's encouraging that he's no longer only urinating in small volumes. Signs that his infection would be persisting or worsening include urinating small frequent amounts, straining to urinate, seeing blood in the urine, licking his penis more than normal, or drinking large volumes of water. From what you've described, it sounds as though Romeo is improving so far, but his test on Friday will provide more clarity. Until then, just keep giving the amoxicillin as prescribed. Poor Diva! Given the persistence of her symptoms I would recommend that Diva be rechecked by your veterinarian. They will likely recheck her urine and may recommend a urine culture if her infection has not improved. She may need different antibiotics or may have another problem exacerbating her symptoms

Without a legal relationship, which in most states means that a physical examination has been performed on the pet, we cannot recommend specific drugs and dosages. I would recommend calling the vet who performed the surgery back and requesting guidance. I would also comment that amoxicillin is not a very good choice for post-op treatment of pyometra, and Gina needs something more broad-spectrum such as Clavamox or Baytril for at least 14 days.

Frequent licking and blood in the urine are signs of an infection. However if it flared after the start of the antibiotics then I would pursue further testing. Did they do anytime sample tonxhexk for cells and crystals and see what bacteria what present? From there you need an X-ray or an ultrasound to make sure there are no bladder stones as this can require surgery or the problem will keep occurring without.

In some individuals, it can cause an upset stomach with vomiting, diarrhea, and/or loss of appetite. For sensitive individuals, this could start after a day or two, but for others, they may have a bit of mildly soft stool near the end of their treatment course. Odds are good that Romeo will be absolutely fine with this medication! It's not a big deal if he has mildly soft stool for a few days. If this happens, just feed a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken and white rice for a few days before gradually mixing his normal food back in. However, if he refuses to eat or drink, or begins to vomit, stop the amoxicillin and call your vet to discuss switching to a different medication. I'm sorry that Daisy is having this problem. It sounds like you are doing everything right. I have a few suggestions for you. If your vet has not performed a urinalysis, that should be done. If there is still evidence of infection after 2 weeks of Augmentin, then I would recommend performing a urine culture which involves sending a sample to the lab to determine what bacteria is present and what antibiotics will work against them. If the urine sample just has blood, then I would recommend taking an x-ray since sometimes we can't feel small bladder stones on exam. If all that is normal, then I think the next step would be to perform an ultrasound of the bladder and kidneys to find the source of the bleeding.
