My dog has a UTI. Are her symptoms from the infection or amoxicillin?

In some individuals, it can cause an upset stomach with vomiting, diarrhea, and/or loss of appetite. For sensitive individuals, this could start after a day or two, but for others, they may have a bit of mildly soft stool near the end of their treatment course. Odds are good that Romeo will be absolutely fine with this medication! It's not a big deal if he has mildly soft stool for a few days. If this happens, just feed a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken and white rice for a few days before gradually mixing his normal food back in. However, if he refuses to eat or drink, or begins to vomit, stop the amoxicillin and call your vet to discuss switching to a different medication. This looks like a pretty normal urine puddle for a dog Romeo's size. I think it's encouraging that he's no longer only urinating in small volumes. Signs that his infection would be persisting or worsening include urinating small frequent amounts, straining to urinate, seeing blood in the urine, licking his penis more than normal, or drinking large volumes of water. From what you've described, it sounds as though Romeo is improving so far, but his test on Friday will provide more clarity. Until then, just keep giving the amoxicillin as prescribed. UTIs are frequently caused by bacteria in the urinary bladder or the urethra. Female dogs are more prone to developing UTIs but any dog can be pre-disposed to UTIs if they have any urinary stone formation. Given that we are unsure if Zarina has a UTI, I would recommend a veterinary visit to confirm that she does in fact have one. They typically take a urine sample and look for bacteria and cells. If they see crystals or evidence of possible stone formation, they may recommend a radiograph of her bladder as well. If she does have UTI, it is important to choose the right antibiotic with the right dose and frequency. Typically, dogs are treated for UTIs with a 10-14 day course of antibiotics. Since UTI's can be painful and irritating, I recommend finding a veterinarian sooner rather than later to confirm and get the proper treatment. I am sorry to hear about Yahoo. We do not normally see these symptoms as a result of amoxicillin use. You don’t mention the type of surgery performed, I would let her vet know if these changes as they could be a sign of urinary tract disease or kidney problems.

If Bella just started vomiting since starting the Amoxicillin, I would stop giving her the medication and schedule a recheck with your vet. She likely is just sensitive to this medication and will do fine on another one. Try offering her something easily digestible to eat like plain boiled chicken and rice. I'm not sure if Sutton is being treated for her UTI or not. If she isn't, then this lethargy could be due to feeling unwell from the infection. In this case, I would have her seen by a vet right away to confirm she does have a UTI and to prescribed antibiotics for it. If she is being treated for her UTI, it could be that she is going through a growth spurt. That would make her more tired than usual, and I would monitor her for now. Should this lethargy continue over the next 24-48 hours, I would have her seen by a vet for a health check.

There may be some residual inflammation related to the stones. He may also have urinary crystals which may also be irritating. Dis uss anti-inflammatory or pain medi ation with your veterinary. Having either on board may make Watson more comfortable. A sterile urine sample should be collected and submitted for urinalysis, culture and sensitivity. If he has a UTI, the culture will confirm it. The sensitivity panel will determine the most effective antibiotic to use in treatment. It may be that any potential bacteria are not susceptible to amoxicillin.
