Is it normal for my dog's pee color to change throughout the day?

There is a large variation in normal urine color, so we can't use that as a gauge to determine if anything medical is going on. We need to examine the urine microscopically to determine if there are any white blood cells, red blood cells, crystals or bacteria that may be abnormal in the urine. Unfortunately, we can't tell that by just looking at the urine. If Belle has urinated small spots 3 times, then I would recommend having your veterinarian examine a urine sample on her just to make sure everything is normal. Good luck! I hope that was helpful. One of the most common reasons that urine becomes darker is if a puppy is dehydrated. If Loki is not drinking normally, that may be a concern. Food change should not cause a change in the color of the urine unless you changed from a wet food to a dry food and they are not drinking enough water to compensate for that change. Other reasons for urine color to become darker include problems with red blood cells or muscle cells. I'm glad you are planning on getting Kiwi tested, as unfortunately it is not possible to tell "normal" urine just from a picture. The colour of urine can change based on the dog's diet, hydration level and other factors. Changes in urine volume, colour, odour, frequency or location of urination could be due to a urinary tract infection, crystals in the urine, stones in the urinary tract, or trauma to the area. If you notice her straining to urinate/unable to produce urine, this is a medical emergency and she should be seen by a vet immediately.

I would have your dog checked for a urinary tract infection. These types of infection can cause a change in the color and consistency of the urine. It is normal for male, intact dogs to have some discharge from the prepuce but if the urine itself is abnormal he needs to be evaluated by your vet and have his urine checked.

Hello, thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. I agree, that is some very dark urine which indicates he must not be drinking enough. You need to increase his water intake. The best way to do that is to add some chicken or beef broth to his food; use the low sodium kind. The added salt (even in the low sodium variety) should encourage him to drink more. If this dark urine continues for more than a few days you should take him to your vet for an exam and urine test.

It's normal for puppies to have very clear, dilute urine because their kidneys are still developing. They can also get urinary tract infections and other issues as well. I would recommend scheduling a vet visit (or telling them you want to talk about this issue when you schedule his next vaccine appointment) and using a small tuberware to catch his first urination of the morning to bring to that appointment. They can check to see how concentrated his urine is. Keep the urine in the fridge if it's going to be more than 30-60 minutes until your appointment. Good luck!
