I would have your dog checked for a urinary tract infection. These types of infection can cause a change in the color and consistency of the urine. It is normal for male, intact dogs to have some discharge from the prepuce but if the urine itself is abnormal he needs to be evaluated by your vet and have his urine checked.

The urine could be yellow due to dehydration, infection or inflammation. Your veterinarian will likely recommend lab work (CBC, chemistry panel, urinalysis) as well as abdominal x-rays. Any treatment will depend on the diagnosis.
If she is behaving normally, she can wait to see your vet. If she is lethargic, painful or cannot urinate, then have her seen sooner.

The urine in the pictures still looks yellow to me! The degree of "yellowness" in pet (or human!) urine can depend on hydration level. The more water they drink, the more dilute their urine and the lighter in color it will be. Changes in color of urine that would be concerning to me would be pink, red, orange, or green.

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Cheezy. The color of a dog's urine will vary with their hydration status. So the less water she has consumed, the darker yellow her urine will be. This could be normal for her assuming she is not straining to urinate, going more frequently or having accidents in the house. These could be signs of another problem such as a urinary tract infection. If you are concerned, I would have her veterinarian perform a urinalysis to rule out any other disease. My dog has yellow-green discharge from his penis. Is it normal?

Yes, it's normal to see a small amount of yellow-green discharge at the tip of the penis in male dogs - this is called smegma, and is comprised of oils and secretions from inside the prepuce (the skin sheath that surrounds the penis). As long as Chester is acting normal, this shouldn't be any cause for concern. If he is licking this area excessively or having any trouble urinating, then I would recommend having it checked by your vet as these can be signs of an infection.

Is it normal for my dog to have white or yellow liquid from his penis?

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! The elevated sodium likely has nothing to do with the discharge. The increased sodium while he was sick was likely due to dehydration. It is normal to have a small amount of discharge from the penis in male dogs. Excessive amounts that cause licking or urinary signs is NOT normal and can indicate a prepuce infection or a urinary tract infection. Use mild soap and water to wash the discharge away and see if you can retract the prepuce to see if there is a lot of discharge on his penis. If you see his penis coated in the the discharge that is too much and he should see your Vet. If you do not see any or very little he is likely fine. Good luck!

Hello. Xavier has Balanoposthitis, an inflammation of the glans penis & prepuce with excessive preputual discharge. Mild cases are generally clinically insignificant, but if severe, treatment may be needed. Have Xavier evaluated by your veterinarian to make sure there are no lesions on the penis. My male dog has pus-like discharge from his urethra. What's wrong?

Some dogs can have a little discharge from the prepuce that looks like this and it nothing to be concerned about. If Nugget is urinating frequently or straining to urinate it could be a sign of a urinary tract infection. Sometimes foreign material can become lodged in the prepuce (the skin that surrounds the penis) and can cause irritation. If there is a lot of discharge, if Nugget is continuously licking his prepuce, or if you see any urinary changes as noted above I'd recommend seeing your vet.

What is this yellow discharge on my dog's penis he keeps licking?

Without pictures it is difficult to say what this is for sure. This could be smegma, which is the normal yellow discharge that is seen coming from a male dog's prepuce, which is a natural lubricant for the penis inside the prepuce. If it is not liquid at the prepuce you are seeing and a pustule, this could be infectious. If you could provide photos and post again it may help determine what this is exactly.
