My dog's pee is dark yellow, but he drinks water. What can I do?

If he's been vomiting and not drinking much, yes it is possible that he's a bit dehydrated. His urine in the picture does look a bit yellow, but if he is now drinking water and feel better, I expect he will become hydrated again in due course. It's fine to increase his water intake, and you could add some gently warmed, low sodium chicken broth to his food to help with increasing his fluid intake. I hope this helps.

Hello and welcome to Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. That urine looks very very concentrated, which is suggestive that Marshall is dehydrated. This coincides with him not drinking. I would recommend getting him to a vet if you can, otherwise try to increase his water intake. Try getting him canned food, and adding water to the food, or providing him with fresh water, or running water (some cats like this). Yes, dark urine can be a sign of dehydration or muscle damage. With a dog fight I usually prescribe pain medication and antibiotics so the wound doesn’t get infected. Since he’s feeling somewhat better now and eating I would add more water to his kibble and some wet food also, making it sloppy or like soup. This will increase his fluid intake. Check the urine color as it should become pale yellow again if he’s drinking enough. I hope Sheldon recovers soon. One of the most common reasons that urine becomes darker is if a puppy is dehydrated. If Loki is not drinking normally, that may be a concern. Food change should not cause a change in the color of the urine unless you changed from a wet food to a dry food and they are not drinking enough water to compensate for that change. Other reasons for urine color to become darker include problems with red blood cells or muscle cells. If by tomorrow he still isn't drinking you can try giving him ice cubes or adding a small amount of low sodium chicken broth to the water. Most likely, as long as he is healthy, he will drink when he is thirsty. A tiny 4 lb poodle doesn't need very much water. If his urine is dark and has a strong odor that means it is concentrated, which worries me less than a very dilute urine as long as he is acting alright. If he starts acting lethargic, is not eating or drinking, then I recommend you call your veterinarian tomorrow. Hopefully, Luke just needs a little more time to adjust.
