My dog's pee is dark yellow with bits. Is this normal or a problem?

Pet's info: Dog | Yorkshire Terrier | Female | spayed | 10 years and 3 months old | 3.6 lbs

I may be overthinking but I am wondering if Bella has a urine issue? She doesn't appear to strain or be in pain. Produces a fair amount each time. had an accident on bed which isn't normal (had been 9.5 hours since out last tho so maybe she held it to sleep in). Three small spots in different areas. Appeared darker yellow and almost looked like there were few bits of something in it. got a sample an hour later and it is dark but didn't see anything in it this time. Is this normal color?

There is a large variation in normal urine color, so we can't use that as a gauge to determine if anything medical is going on. We need to examine the urine microscopically to determine if there are any white blood cells, red blood cells, crystals or bacteria that may be abnormal in the urine. Unfortunately, we can't tell that by just looking at the urine. If Belle has urinated small spots 3 times, then I would recommend having your veterinarian examine a urine sample on her just to make sure everything is normal.

The first sample in the morning tends to be the most concentrated (darker yellow in color). Then as the dog eats and drinks during the day, the color tends to lighten up. The picture you attached appears normal, but the dirt does make it hard to assess. If you have concerns, then I recommend taking a sample to his veterinarian for a urinalysis. Hello, thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. I agree, that is some very dark urine which indicates he must not be drinking enough. You need to increase his water intake. The best way to do that is to add some chicken or beef broth to his food; use the low sodium kind. The added salt (even in the low sodium variety) should encourage him to drink more. If this dark urine continues for more than a few days you should take him to your vet for an exam and urine test.

These signs might be compatible with a urinary tract infection/inflammation. Stress related (idiopathic type of inflammation), infection and presence of crystals are the most common causes of it. Why are there white bits in my 5-month-old puppy's pee? Is it serious?

That is an interesting picture. Is it possible that there was something on the sidewalk prior to her urinating? Was this a one time occurrence? I would recommend taking her into a veterinarian. They may want to collect a sample to see if it is still present. They may also want to collect a sterile sample of urine by doing a cystocentesis ( using a syringe and needle ). Why is my dog's urine still clear after she stopped eating?

Hello, thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Urine can look deceptively clear, but still be perfectly normal. The only way to know for sure is to collect a sample of urine in a clean container & take it to your vet ( or take Scribbles to the vet for a complete check up ). We can do a quickie urinalysis that includes a measure of the dissolved solids in urine. This is a very good indication of what her overall kidney function might be. But as long as she has resumed eating & drinking, it is not an emergency, but at her age, a good check up might be in order. Take care.
