If the vet suspects that the nerve damage is permanent, then it is unlikely that Jade will be able to use the muscles in that limb, and using a sling or opting for amputation are options. Some types of nerve damage can heal over time. I have had a couple cases of radial nerve damage improve with regular acupuncture and physical therapy. I would talk with your vet about the chances for recovery. You may also ask for a referral to see a veterinarian that is certified in physical therapy as your best shot at regaining function in the leg.

If she is unable to feel the foot and place it correctly, without signs of pain it is likely there is an underlying nerve injury causing the limb to be numb. Unfortunately, in some cases amputation is necessary to prevent self trauma and further injury to the leg as they cannot feel cuts/grazes etc. Monitor closely for any skin damage and have her reassessed in 7-10days

Yes, the circulation was compromised but the nerves could also have been damaged. My hope is that with time the nerves and vessels will return to normal. If B is holding up the foot it is likely painful. The vet can prescribe pain medications to help him feel better. Good luck!

At that age it can affect the growth rate or length of the leg long term. In proper healing can lead to arthritis at an earlier age and limit mobility. There is no way to know if it is broke with out an xray. If taking it to a vet is not an option, all you can do is kennel rest her and limit all activity for 4-6 weeks. The good news is puppies heal faster than adults. The less she uses it and moves on it, means you have a better chance of healing.

Recovery of function following radial nerve injury is very rare and the majority of cases do require amputation - especially in young active patients which do not rest!

I'm sorry about Brownie. I would be concerned about a neck injury, potentially with a neurologic component if she is shuffling her front feet. Dachshunds are especially predisposed to disc injuries which can cause compression of the spinal cord and cause weakness or even paralysis. If she is not improving she should see your vet again soon as she may need to be referred to a neurologist. They would potentially recommend an MRI to determine if and where there may be spinal cord damage.
