Can my husky puppy recover from leg nerve damage without amputation?

I agree with your veterinarian that the trauma could have caused nerve damage. Paws that don;t have the ability to move can be prone to injury and then amputation is needed. Nerve repair is slow. If you want to be as proactive as possible, I recommend to look into physical therapy for Scooby. A physical therapist will set up a multi-model plan that can consist of laser therapy, acupuncture and movement. I hope this helps and I hope Scooby recovers quickly.

If the vet suspects that the nerve damage is permanent, then it is unlikely that Jade will be able to use the muscles in that limb, and using a sling or opting for amputation are options. Some types of nerve damage can heal over time. I have had a couple cases of radial nerve damage improve with regular acupuncture and physical therapy. I would talk with your vet about the chances for recovery. You may also ask for a referral to see a veterinarian that is certified in physical therapy as your best shot at regaining function in the leg.

Poor Georgia! Unfortunately it is possible that she may have permanent damage due to her accident, especially since her injury occurred while she was a puppy and still growing. However, there may be a few things that may help her, including acupuncture, massage, chiropractic treatment, rehabilitation exercises and physiotherapy, as you mentioned. It's also important that you keep her at a lean body weight and don't let her get overweight, as that would put extra strain on her joints. Talk to your vet about joint supplements to help support her joints, as the rest of her joints and legs will be taking on extra strain due to the fact that she cannot use her left front leg, which can make them more prone to injury and arthritis. Your veterinarian may also want to prescribe pain medication, as the fact that she cannot use her leg properly is likely causing pain in the affected limb and other limbs, as described above. There are a couple of reasons that a rear leg will become paralyzed. The most common are a lack of blood supply or a lack of nerve supply. The lack of blood supply most commonly occurs because of a blood clot and is very painful, so I doubt that is what is going on with Nook. The other possibility is that the nerves that go to the leg are damaged. The most common reason this will occur without any signs of trauma or injury would be a bulging disc (which again is most commonly somewhat painful) or a condition such as a Fibrocartilaginous Embolus (which is like a stroke to the spinal cord). FCE's are non-painful, but there isn't any treatment other than time and physical therapy. Unfortunately, the only way to determine the cause is often an MRI. I'm not sure if you have a veterinary neurologist near you, but they might be able to help you with a diagnosis and treatment. If not, I would consider trying to find a veterinarian who does acupuncture or rehabilitation to help you manage and improve Nook while you are waiting to see how much he recovers. I am sorry to hear about Koba. While compression of the spinal cord is the most common cause of paralysis in dogs there are other possible causes including trauma to the spinal cord and tumors compressing the spinal cord. Unfortunately if your dog has been paralyzed for this length of time improvement even with surgery is very unlikely because the compression of the spinal cord for this length of time likely has caused permanent alteration. Many dogs do well with wheel chairs/carts, though in a dog as large as 100 pounds that is a much more difficult situation and you need to consider his quality of life and discuss with your vet if you have concerns about that quality and whether or not it can be improved or if euthanasia should be considered if the quality is poor.

Neurologic issues can take time. It is great that she is up and bearing weight on her own, dogs are so amazing. Hopefully she had xrays to look for a spinal/pelvic fracture, collapsed disc space, etc. as these would be important to rule out as well. You will need to give her potentially even months to know what her new normal with be. Hopefully she will at some point be deficit free or only have a mild deficit but it is too soon to tell. Keep working with her. Hopefully your vet has recommended a physical therapy/rehab plan for her. If not, you could request referral to a rehab therapist. Without knowing the exact diagnosis and why she is not able to walk now , it would be very dangerous to recommend physiotherapy. If you have not done so yet, Lucy needs to be seen by a veterinarian and the cause of the paralysis needs to be found, whether it is a fracture or pinched or damaged nerves or a slipped disk caused by the accident. This exam by your vet will also determine if there is any hope at all for your dog to be able to regain movement in his hind legs.
