What to put on dog paw burns from pavement? Is olive oil safe?

Poor Lucky! Place the back of your hand on the pavement, and if you can't hold it there for five seconds, it's too hot to walk him. It does sound like he may have burned his paws on the walk, and I would limit his walking for now to allow his paws to heal. When you do walk him, do it on grassy surfaces. Keep him inside as much as possible. You might consider getting him doggie booties to protect his paws when walking. I'd leave his paws along for now, keep an eye on them. If they appear infected (red, swollen, warm to the touch), then I would take him to the vet. I hope this helps!

Adding oils can help some pets with dry skin, but it can take 6-8 weeks to take effect, and in my opinion it doesn't make a very big difference. Omega 3 oils would be best to try. The biggest side effect is greasy or loose stools. Dry or cracked paws could be caused by excessive licking, or it could happen with allergies or autoimmune disease. I would recommend having Pavi checked out by the vet to see if this may be the case.

Sawyer may develop a bit of diarrhea and/or vomiting but it should resolve quickly. You can buy protective booties to use on walks or you can use a paw cream such as Musher's Secret. It is a safe cream for pets and works great. You can order it online or buy it at most pet stores.

Poor Sky! Sure to always touch the concrete to make sure it is not too hot as pets can get serious injury. Avoid walking Sky during the hot time of the day. Walk in the very early mornings or in the evenings after the temperature has dropped. Booties can help as well to protect her feet from hot temperatures. Also make sure she does not lick at the feet (have her wear an elizabethan collar at all times) and keep her on soft surfaces with no walks, running or jumping until the tissue is fully healed. You can apply a dab of coconut oil and rub it in well. Make sure she does not lick this as it can cause GI upset. You can also purchase the balm that mushers use on sled dogs. Some people put booties on their dogs for walks outside to protect them against the snow, ice, and salt on the roads and sidewalks. Vaseline is safe to use but if you want something more natural then the ResQ skin treatment is all natural and would be fine to use to apply to the paw pads until resolved. If the paw pads begin to look swollen or show any signs of infection (pus, etc.) then I would recommend having Snowball examined by a veterinarian so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. Hello, I am sorry to hear about Paris. To help with her dry and cracked paws I would recommend applying a small amount of Vaseline or similar product. Although this is quite safe, I would recommend trying to prevent Paris from licking at the Vaseline. It will also be helpful to discourage licking in general. It may also be helpful to try and keep Paris away from rough surfaces such as gravel. You could try to purchase protective booties while these injuries heal.
