Dog's paws burned from hot pavement. What to do and when to walk?

Poor Oscar! Running around on the blacktop can cause a lot of trauma to the skin as you have unfortunately found out. You must protect the paw from licking as this will make it worse. He should wear an Elizabethan collar at all times. He should also only be allowed to walk on soft surfaces and can not have any running until the paw is healed. The concern with injuries on the foot is that they can become infected since they are constantly making contact with the ground. I recommend to have him examined by his veterinarian who may bandage there paw and give you a topical treatment or even antibiotics. Yes, they can feel it if it is too hot. Some dogs have a higher tolerance for pavement depending on how tough their pads are. If you are worried and he likes to walk on the pavement you can use a product to keep his pads tough. Ouch, poor Oakley! Gently wash his paw with warm water and antiseptic soap. Bandage it and put a sock over his foot to keep the bandage clean and dry. Change the bandage daily and keep an eye out for signs of infection. They include redness, swelling, warmth to the touch, and pus. If you see any of those signs, take him into the vet for antibiotics. He's limping because he is in pain, so rest him for now. No running, jumping, or playing. Take him out to toilet on leash only, and bring him right back in when he's done. Please do not give him any human pain medication. Many are toxic to dogs and can be fatal if given. I would not use olive oil on Lucky's paw, that will not bring moisture back into them. He will also just lick the oil off, and that can make him sick in that it could cause pancreatitis. Poor Sky! Sure to always touch the concrete to make sure it is not too hot as pets can get serious injury. Avoid walking Sky during the hot time of the day. Walk in the very early mornings or in the evenings after the temperature has dropped. Booties can help as well to protect her feet from hot temperatures. Also make sure she does not lick at the feet (have her wear an elizabethan collar at all times) and keep her on soft surfaces with no walks, running or jumping until the tissue is fully healed. You can apply a dab of coconut oil and rub it in well. Make sure she does not lick this as it can cause GI upset. You can also purchase the balm that mushers use on sled dogs. Hi. Yes, if it it hurts your feet, it will hurt them. They need a different situation during the heat then and also need some place soft to rest the feet when they want also. Please let them know. It can burn their feet and can lead to.heat exhaustion

I would definitely recommend taking Daisy to the vet. She may need topical medication, very likely needs pain medication and possibly antibiotics as well. Burns on the feet can take a long time to heal but proper care from the start will help them heal faster. I hope Daisy feels better soon.
