Is my dog's paw bandage supposed to look bulky after surgery?

It's hard to know without an examine. First, check the bandage to see if it is too tight. A tight bandage can cause problems like pain but it can also cut off the blood supply (which is bad). Check the incision for any opening or signs of infection. Potter may need to be re-examined today if you can't find a cause or if the foot/incision is compromised. Remember you must keep Potter from licking the incision and he may need to wear an elizabethan collar. I hope this helps.

Yes, I would be a bit worried. I suggest you take him back to your vet for a recheck exam. It is hard for me to give advice without seeing the issue. Please remove the rest of the bandage and you can do some gentle massage up and down the leg to improve the circulation. Holding the paw and rhythmically squeezing and releasing will help also. Please use a restraint collar so Kolsch doesn't chew her incision or make a sore on the swollen leg or paw. I encourage 2-5 minute slow controlled leash walks. If the swelling doesn't resolve by tomorrow I recommend a recheck with the veterinarian who performed the surgery. I would not recommend attempting to place a bandage - it is very easy to make a bandage too tight which could cause more damage. Let the paw air day, and if Carson is limping in the morning or if the paw still seems red or irritated I'd recommend having your vet take a look.

I'm not sure if you tried to attach a picture or not, but I do not see a picture. Be sure that the dressing stays clean and dry on the outside. If Zander gets it wet on the outside, it can allow bacteria to come through the bandage to the wound. If you are changing the dressing twice daily, then I would not anticipate any reason that it would need cleaning. In general, it is better to change a bandage more often. However, if it appears sore, then I would recommend having your veterinarian examine it to make sure there aren't any changes that need to be made to your bandaging process. Good luck! Yes, that is fairly normal for a punch biopsy. The opening is usually quite small, but it's a deep wound, so it tends to bleed a lot; especially in certain areas of the body and with certain lesions. I would not be worried right now. Keep it covered and the bleeding will stop soon. The bleeding will not be enough to cause any major damage, so no worries about that. The swelling should go down in the next 2-3 days. If it's past three days and it's still swelling, then it would be worth a recheck by your veterinarian. Judging from the picture you provided, the paws do not look that red and I see no visible wounds. I would say that it should be ok to leave the bandages off. If she is licking / chewing at the paws, I would recommend using the plastic cone around her head to prevent her from licking them and worsening the condition further. I hope this helps!
