My dog had vomiting, diarrhea, bloody stool. Was it parvo? Socialize?

Usually dogs with parvovirus or distemper are very lethargic and ill. If your dog is eating and drinking fine and has lots of energy then I don’t think the diarrhea is from either of those diseases. I do recommend a fecal exam soon, perhaps you can drop one off before your appointment to check for intestinal parasites that could cause diarrhea. Also I would monitor what she’s eating and check to make sure she’s not getting into things she shouldn’t in the yard. She’s a puppy and they love to eat anything! Should she become lethargic, stop eating or the diarrhea worsens then don’t wait, take her in to a veterinarian right away for treatment. If Paris tested positive for parvovirus it is likely that she did have parvovirus since we do not typically see a false positive on the test. While many dogs get very sick from parvovirus there are some dogs who develop mild clinical signs and others can even be asymptomatic for the disease. If she did not have a parvovirus test performed than it certainly could have been another disease - there are many causes of vomiting and bloody diarrhea in puppies ranging from intestinal parasites to dietary indiscretion (eating non-food items). I would be very concerned about parvovirus since a littermate died and the virus is extremely contagious and can be fatal. I recommend getting Pup to a vet as soon as possible to have her. tested for the virus. If she is positive, I recommend hospitalization with IV fluid therapy and medications because this virus can cause severe dehydration in a puppy that young. If she is negative, I recommend they test her stool for microscopic parasite eggs. Although she may have been dewormed, not all medications treat all parasites and she may have something that needs to be addressed. Good luck and kisses to Pup!

Hello. Puppies usually are very nauseous & will have a bloody diarrhea with Parvo virus infections, but do not usually vomit up blood. Severe intestinal parasite infestations can mimic parvo, especially with whipworms & hookworms, & there other possible causes for the symptoms including a severe bacterial gastritis, other viruses, toxins & ingestion of foreign objects. If she is fully vaccinated against parvo (and is up to date with her boosters), then she will be protected and there is no need to worry. If she is not up to date on her vaccines, then this is a concern. The incubation period is typically 3-5 days, so I would expect a week on, she would have had symptoms of it by now, but it can be up to 14 days. I suspect that it may be she is car sick. I can give you a home remedy for her that may help. Withhold food for 12-24 hours, then feed a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in her normal diet. If the vomiting continues in the absence of food, she vomits the bland diet, develops diarrhea, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, she will need to see a vet right away. Puppies commonly get gastrointestinal infections from parasites and bacteria that can cause this to happen. We always worry about Parvo virus in puppies, but it causes bloody stool, so hopefully this won't be the case for Stella. If he is still active and eating/drinking, then this is likely not an emergency, but he should be seen by a vet within the next 24 hours. It very well could be parvo. I suggest you get her to your vet ASAP for an exam and testing. You really need to know if it is parvo or not. Either way, your vet will help you determine the cause of the bloody diarrhea and give you treatment options. Then, once this diarrhea is cleared up you can get her started on her vaccines.
