My puppy has parvo. Is green diarrhea a sign she's getting better?

My puppy has parvo and she had diarreha and it was orange but now its green is that a good sign that shes gettin better and it dosent stink that much?

If your puppy has parvo, it is best to work with your treating veterinarian for care and help. Parvo is a very serious illness that can be potentially fatal and usually requires hospitalization or intensive care for treatment.

Diarrhea in parvo can usually be blood-tinged indicating irritation of the digestive tract, or may be greenish in color indicating an increase in mucous in the stool (also a sign of irritation as well as shedding of material in the digestive tract). If your puppy's stool is changing color, it may be in response to the change in his illness or just a sign that his digestive system is still very irritated. It is best to speak with your veterinarian that has seen and is treating him for any further care instructions related to his illness.

Congrats on your new puppy! I'm sorry to say that runny poop isn't normal, and it is concerning that there is a red texture to it. This can indicate blood in the feces, which can have very concerning causes of it. One for example is parvovirus. This is a deadly disease of young unvaccinated puppies, and one symptom of it is bloody diarrhea. This diarrhea could also be caused by intestinal parasites, a change in diet, or GI illness among other causes. Because I can't see her in person to rule out parvo and given the fact that parvo is very deadly and contagious, I feel the best thing to do is take Harlee into a vet immediately. This is something that should be checked out now so it can be treated promptly. I hope this helps, and good luck with her!

Poor Katy. If she had fully recovered from parvo, the likelihood she has it again is rare. Typically dogs are immune to parvo after they get it and recover. It could be she has a problem like a GI illness or intestinal worms. I'd have her checked out by a vet today. Best of luck.

Your puppy needs to be seen by a vet right away. Vomiting and diarrhea in a puppy so young is always concerning, but the symptoms sound suspicious of parvo, which can be deadly to a young pup. Your vet will do an exam and labwork to determine what is causing the symptoms and based on these results will be better able to tell you what is going on and how best to treat it.

I hope that she has some medication on board for nausea and vomiting - if not, your vet should be able to prescribe some for you to give at home. Puppy recovering from parvo: Is black, tarry diarrhea normal?

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Nayla! I am very glad Nayla is on the road to recovery! Yes, the diarrhea will persist for several days after parvo viral infections. More due to the fact that intestinal lining is what is affected from virus. It takes time for the lining to repair itself and for absorption to return to normal. Very black tarry stool indicates upper gastro-intestinal bleeding. It could be residual from stomach ulceration. If she has more black stool I would call your Vet and ask if that is the color of her diarrhea while she was hospitalized. They may want to add pepcid or another antacid if she isn't on one. Puppy diarrhea with metallic smell: Could it be parvo or parasites?

Hello, that sounds more consistent with potential parasites. Parvo may intially cause brown to dark red liquid diarrhea with occasional blood. However, the only true way to know is to test the stool for parvo with a parvo test. In addition to the diarrhea puppies will also have vomiting, lethargy, and decreased appetite. Your puppies are a bit too young to have parvo as they should still have their mothers immunity they received via the colostrum. If your puppies however did not nurse from mom, then they may be at risk for parvo. Hope this helps and best of luck.

Unvaccinated puppy has bloody diarrhea. Is it parvo? What should I do?

It very well could be parvo. I suggest you get her to your vet ASAP for an exam and testing. You really need to know if it is parvo or not. Either way, your vet will help you determine the cause of the bloody diarrhea and give you treatment options. Then, once this diarrhea is cleared up you can get her started on her vaccines. Worried: My playful puppy has diarrhea. Is it parvo or distemper?

Usually dogs with parvovirus or distemper are very lethargic and ill. If your dog is eating and drinking fine and has lots of energy then I don’t think the diarrhea is from either of those diseases. I do recommend a fecal exam soon, perhaps you can drop one off before your appointment to check for intestinal parasites that could cause diarrhea. Also I would monitor what she’s eating and check to make sure she’s not getting into things she shouldn’t in the yard. She’s a puppy and they love to eat anything! Should she become lethargic, stop eating or the diarrhea worsens then don’t wait, take her in to a veterinarian right away for treatment.
