My puppy has a painless lump on his eyelid. What could it be?

Hello, I have a Siberian Husky mixed with German Shepard, I got him at 1month and half, he soon will be 3 months, and I've just noticed a very small lump on his bottom lid of his eye, near the outer right, I touched it and it doesn't seem to hurt him, but i'm still worried. Any ideas what it could be?

This lump on Shadow could be a meibomian gland adenoma or a stye. Both are benign growths, and not something about which to be too concerned. You can try holding a wash cloth that has been moistened in warm water again the lump to see if that help encourages drainage of the lump. Do this a couple of times a day for five minutes at a time. If this doesn't help, then I would have Shadow seen by a vet. If it is a meibomian gland adenoma, it can ulcerate, so it may need to be removed surgically to prevent irritation to the cornea of the eye.

It's difficult to tell without being able to examine it, but I suspect that this is a meibomian gland adenoma. This is essentially like a zit of the eyelid, where a mucous secreting gland is blocked and grows. They often require surgery to remove them, but they can go away on their own. This could also be an infection in the eyelid, or a tumor, so it's best to get it checked out if it continues to grow, turns red, or irritates the eye.

For now, you can apply a cloth soaked in warm water to the eye for 10 minutes twice a day. This may help it to heal quicker and reduce in size over the next couple of weeks.

Thats unusual for a puppy. I recommend to make an appointment with her veterinarian to check it out. Things that come to mind would be a very infected hair follicle, something like a thorn stuck in the skin, a skin abscess and less commonly- a tooth root abscess, a parasite in the skin or a cyst. At home you can try applying a warm compress to the area twice daily. Make sure Willow does not scratch at it as this could lead to further damage. This kind of lump/growth needs to be ideally assessed by your veterinarian to have a definitive and specific answer. I would suggest to have it checked as it can rub against cornea and create discomfort and possibly corneal damage in the long run. Usually there are two ways your vet can do that a part from examining it directly during physical examination. A biopsy can be taken under local or general anesthetic, otherwise a smaller sample through a fine needle can be aspirated (this technique is called FNA= fine needle aspiration). Differentials include skin cysts, infections, inflammation of the eyelid glands, benign or more sinister type of tumors. If just inflammatory, a medical treatment can be attempted to reduce its size. My dog has a recurring eyelid growth. Should I be concerned?

Fortunately, the majority of eyelid masses on dogs are benign Meibomian gland adenomas. As long as the mass does not start growing significantly, bleeding, or causing Murphy to scratch, continue monitoring progression of these masses with photos to show to your vet in August. If anything changes significantly or seems to bother Murphy, he should go in for an exam sooner. Since he has fear-based aggression (very common!) and will need to have his eyes thoroughly examined, consider calling his vet to ask if he should have a sedative at home prior to his exam both to decrease stress and allow for a more thorough exam. Hello. That looks like a small growth/tumor that originated in a tear-producing gland. Without an actual biopsy, we cannot say the exact type or if it is benign/malignant. However, the majority are Meibomian Gland Adenomas and typically are benign. They can bleed, cause inflammation or infection and, if large enough, can irritate or even scratch the cornea. My dog has a red bump under her eyelid that popped. What's wrong?

I am afraid that this red mass looks like a tumor or multicystic mass. This is definitely something that needs to be seen by a vet as it a) keeps your dog from closing his eye lid which can damage the eye to the point of losing vision (will dry out the cornea), and b), tumors can grow invasively, ie destroy the eye. Your vet will examine the mass, possibly take a little bit of tissue to examine under the microscope or send in to a pathology lab and then, depending on the findings, discuss treatment options, which could include removal of the mass alone (if possible), medication to remove it or make it shrink, or even removal of the eye. Please make an appointment with your veterinarian soon.

What is this pink bump on my puppy's eyelid? Should I be concerned?

It may just be a stye or even an insect bite. As long as it isn't bothering him, I wouldn't be worried about it and just recommend monitoring it. A lot of times these go away on their own. However, if it is bothering him I would recommend placing an e-collar on him to prevent him from rubbing his face for now, then get him seen by your vet for medications to help it resolve. My dog has a new eyelid growth that's getting bigger. What is it?

It can be a result of an infection such as a stye or it can be a growth out of the glands that line the eyelid. Most masses are benign. If it is enlarging, I recommend he sees his veterinarian.
