Why is my dog's nose sore getting worse? What should I do?

These are odd lesions and one concern I would have is an immune-mediated skin disease. It is possible it is something else but problems affecting mucocutaneous junctions are oftentimes immune-mediated in nature. Other possibilities include bacterial infection, nutritional problem, etc. Your veterinarian is likely to advise some tests if this condition persists. A skin biopsy might be necessary to diagnose this. Once a diagnosis is made a sound treatment plan can be implemented. Good luck with Sasha.

While this may be caused by a bite from another dog, from my experience, this looks a little bit more like a wound from nudging something constantly with the nose. Perhaps nudging a door to a crate, or sticking his nose under a door repeatedly. I recommend keeping a close eye on the area, and maybe even getting Bear an E-collar or "cone" so that he does not cause further trauma to the area. I advise against applying antibiotic ointments such as Neosporin as Bear is likely to lick them off quickly. I hope this helps and that all is well with Bear!

Poor Belle. This could be a bacterial infection, fungal infection, or even a type of skin mite. Especially since it is getting worse, I would have your vet take a look at it. Your vet will be able to determine what has caused the infection and the best treatment plan to make it better. She is likely going to need some oral medication to help it heal. I hope this helps!

The most common reason that we will see a small raw area on the inside of the nostril is due to irritation of some type. That can be something as simple as a scratch from a stick or toy that will take some time to heal. I typically do not recommend applying anything to the area because it can make dogs try to lick or rub the area more which can make it take longer to heal. If your vet has examined it and is not concerned, then I would just recommend monitoring it. I would expect that it will slowly resolve as long as Otis is not continuing to irritate it. If it does not resolve in a couple of weeks or appears to be enlarging, then I would certainly have your veterinarian examine it again. Good luck! I hope that was helpful and answered your question. So, there are a number of things this could be. 1) This could be an allergic response to something in her environment or an insect, 2) This could be a fungal or bacterial infection that could be primary OR secondary to trauma or an allergy. Ideally I would do a prep on a slide and look under the microscope to see if there is a significant bacterial or yeast population. Regardless, however, I think she would benefit from some topical treatment depending on what is seen under the microscope. If it seems to be spreading, and the area is swollen, some injectable or oral medications may be indicated.

Based on the picture you have provided, it appears that this could be bacterial or a skin parasite causing the lesion. The skin may need to be cultured and if a skin scraping has not been performed, I would certainly recommend having this done to make sure this is not due to a skin mite such as demodex. If this is not due to a mite and is still there, I would recommend a culture / biopsy of the area for a more definitive diagnosis. I hope this helps guide you in the right direction. Poor baby. Definitely looks red and irritated. It may need oral antibiotics or possibly just some topical antibiotics. I would call and schedule an exam and get the correct medications. The cause could be infection, allergies, immune mediated conditions, and more. Needs to be looked at a little more closely.
