Dog mouth pain after chewing stick? Should I take him to the vet?

There is most likely a wound in the mouth which is why he is drooling. I highly recommend having him evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. They would be able to check what may be wrong so that therapy can be started right away. Best of luck!

She may have cut or scraped the inside of her mouth and may even have a piece to the stick stuck in there. Try to get a look in her mouth without struggling with her too much and making her afraid. If you see something and you can get to it, try to get it out but don't get yourself bitten. If her swelling doesn't improve or gets worse by tomorrow, get her in to see your vet as soon as you can so her mouth doesn't get infected.

Sounds like your dog did one of the following: inhaled something into his lungs, got something stuck in his esophagus, or ingested something that scraped up the esophagus on the way down causing irritation and pain. In order to differentiate between the three of these possibility, a physical exam and x-rays would be needed. If you feel Meeko is stable (based on his continued appetite and thirst I would say he most probably is), it wouldn't hurt to see if this is something that will resolve on its own in the next 24 hours. If something just scratch the lining of the esophagus it is going to be a little painful and inflamed for the next day or two. If you do decide to take him into the vet, he would likely benefit from a anti-inflammatory and/or pain medication to alleviate any discomfort he may be feeling. Hope this makes sense.

Oh dear, poor Josie! Since you are unable to easily remove the stick due to her wiggling, I recommend taking her to an emergency vet (or your regular vet if they are open) now. If the stick is left in place, it may cause significant pain and damage to the gemlike, which could quickly lead to infection. If the stick becomes dislodged, it could also become a choking hazard or pose a risk of foreign body ingestion, either of which may lead to bigger problems. If she is too squirmy for an emergency vet to remove the stick while she is awake, sedation may be needed. I hope this helps and that all goes well!

Wow, that is quite a large piece of stick ! It would be beneficial to take Charlie to a vet because sometimes it is difficult to evaluate the extent of the injury on your own. I know he is probably a brave boy and that he has already forgotten about it, the wound though might need to be flushed with some sterile solution and likely bandaged ,(according to where it is), to protect it from becoming infected.

He could indeed have something stuck in his throat I strongly recommend getting him in to see your vet immediately. It sounds like he's trying to move whatever is stuck and not having much success. He needs to be seen before he hurts himself.

Hello and thank you for your post. From your description, it is definitely possible that the stick caused some trauma and now Piper is painful from this. I would get her seen by a vet as soon as you can to make sure nothing is lodged in the back of the mouth. If she is refusing food then she certainly might have something stuck or a splinter that you cannot see causing discomfort.
