My dog's mouth jabbed by stick, drooling, in pain. What to do?

You should have Pete examined by your veterinarian. There may be periodontal disease, infection or foreign body causing the symptoms. Sedation may be required to examine him fully. If it is periodontal disease, a complete dental cleaning may be indicated. This will require anesthesia and Pete may need extractions.

Without looking in the mouth, it'd be hard to say. Most mouth wounds heal up fast, but if it is still bleeding, the wound is bigger than your pinky nail, or there is facial swelling/pain, these are all signs of potential infection or a wound that is big enough that it requires treatment by your vet. Keeping any drool and debris away from the affected area is best so it can stay clean (a clean dry washcloth works great for mastiff drool!)

However, if they are loose that is usually indicative of an underlying dental issue so I would recommend that you have him evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. It is possible he injured his tongue or gums or even deeper into his larynx. I would highly recommend a trip to the veterinarian with a sedated oral exam as it sounds like there is either and injury or remaining portion of the stick. Very often I find them on the roofs of their mouth. Good luck!

It is possible, based on your description, that Monkey broke a tooth yesterday when he bit the person as puppy teeth break quite easily. I would suspect a toxin that was ingested or a systemic disease that is causing abnormal bleeding into the surrounding tissues of the body.
