My dog has a lump with yellow fluid. Is it spinal fluid or a cyst?

Although I can't tell for sure, it is possible that Busta has a ruptured cyst. Cysts often contain thick yellow material that can rupture out when the cyst becomes too full for becomes traumatized. They often don't heal well as the tissue is abnormal and often become infected because dogs will lick or chew at them. I would recommend that you have him seen by your veterinarian. He may need antibiotics or to have the cyst removed.

I would clean this using a combined solution of water and betadine (mix until light brown) and keep the area clean. The cyst will likely close back up now that it has ruptured. This is likely just a cyst or possibly a localized infection. Since it isn't changing and your dog doesn't seem to be too worried about it, I wouldn't be too concerned. Based on the picture it looks like Marley has a small cyst. Cyst will fill out with clear fluid but can also have different color fluid. Cyst are typically non cancerous and nothing to be concerned about. However you should never decide what a mass is based only on looks. Some cancerous masses can look like anything for example mast cells tumors. I would recommend taking Marley to a vet for an aspirate of the mass. The vet can look at the cells under a microscope and tell you what the cause it and if it should be surgically removed. hope that helps

What you are describing sounds like a sebaceous cyst. These are commonly found in the skin in dogs. A lot of times they will express a thick white or yellowish material. This is normal. The cysts do not usually need to be removed unless they become infected or are irritating the dog. If your dog has one cyst they may develop more down the road but it should be nothing to worry about.

If this lump fills up with clear fluid, it is most likely a cyst. These are usually nothing to be concerned by, but they will keep filling up over and over. The only way to get rid of them permanently is to have them surgically removed. Most of the time this isn't necessary as cysts are mostly cosmetic.
