My dog has loose stool from undigested food. When to see a vet?

It sounds like the diarrhea is resolving, so as long as that continues I wouldn't worry about seeing your vet. You can gradually transition back to his usual diet once the stool seems mostly formed. Urinating inside can occasionally be a sign of a urinary tract infection, urinary disease, or a disease that is causing dilute urine. If Louis seems to urinate more frequently or has another accident I'd recommend having your vet examine him and check a urine sample.

I believe you posted yesterday about this same issue, and I explained yesterday that not all the veggies you feed Chloe will be digested. Yes she is getting nutrients out of it, but the food will be too fibrous for the dog to fully digest. As an example, humans can't fully digest corn, which is why you see corn in the feces. You get the nutrients from it, but you can't fully digest the corn itself. If you are feeding her blueberries, then yes I would expect to have that affect the color of her feces. She is not a ruminant (which are herbivores) so she cannot fully digest veggies and fruits like they can. Biologically, she does not have the organs (ruminants have a four chambered stomach to digest plants fully) or the microorganisms to assist in that digestion. If Chloe was having problems with malabsorption, she would be experiencing pale runny feces and weight loss amount other symptoms. There is not need to worry about this at all :-)

I'm really glad to hear that Mugi is still eating and acting normally! Stool color can change with any different food (not even just orange foods) as a result of how the bile and gut bacteria shift in response. I definitely understand your concern because finding stool with orange and greenish coloration can seem a bit disconcerting. The good news is that there really isn't anything you need to worry about since Mugi otherwise seems so normal. Just continue to keep an eye on her and any other changes to her stool color. However, if she becomes lethargic, experiences a loss of appetite, vomiting, diarrhea, or changes in her water consumption/urine volume, then it's worth taking a trip to the vet for evaluation to rule out other medical issues. I would suggest to withhold food for the next 8-12 hours and then start feeding with a bland diet based on boiled chicken and rice in small portion every 6 hours for the following 48hours. Then gradually reintroduce the normal diet over 5 days. I would definitively recommend a veterinary check up if the signs persist or you notice diarrhoea, more vomiting, lethargy or inappetence. Hi there! I would not be concerned about Pika’s chosen eating schedule at all. Some dogs are less food-motivated than others. However, if she has consistently loose stool she may benefit from a probiotic or by switching to a diet that is more digestible for her particular GI system. I would start with a fecal exam to make sure she doesn’t have some kind of parasitic infection or bacterial overgrowth casing the looser stool and then go from there. Your veterinarian should be able to clarify what, if anything, is going on. Hope that helps!

Hello. An orange stool could be an indication of hemolysis ( destruction of RBCs ) or a possible gallbladder problem, or just the dye from something ingested. The mucous is usually a reaction to some irritation in the colon. If everything seems perfectly normal in how Mille acts & eats, you might just feed her a very bland diet ( 25% boiled chicken & 75% plain white rice ) for a couple of meals. If her stool self-corrects, then it was just something she got into. If it persists, you will need to have your veterinarian examine her to make sure all is OK. Hello and thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. I think it is a coincident that a part of her stool looked like a kibble. I cannot imagine that a whole kibble went through her gastrointestinal tract without being digested. Please, keep an eye on her stools and if you see more of potentially undigested food, Chloe may need a blood test to check her pancreas function.
