Why is my active dog having orange loose, fatty stools with mucus?

I'm really glad to hear that Mugi is still eating and acting normally! Stool color can change with any different food (not even just orange foods) as a result of how the bile and gut bacteria shift in response. I definitely understand your concern because finding stool with orange and greenish coloration can seem a bit disconcerting. The good news is that there really isn't anything you need to worry about since Mugi otherwise seems so normal. Just continue to keep an eye on her and any other changes to her stool color. However, if she becomes lethargic, experiences a loss of appetite, vomiting, diarrhea, or changes in her water consumption/urine volume, then it's worth taking a trip to the vet for evaluation to rule out other medical issues. Organge poops are concerning for possible liver disease (the yellow colour suggests the liver is not working as well), and diarrhea is concerning as well. Not wanting to eat like normal is also a sign of not feeling well. You can try him on a bland diet of boiled/boneless/skinless chicken breasts and boiled rice to see if it is just a gastritis that has thrown off his gut, otherwise I would suggest getting bloodwork done to see if his liver is OK. This can be a sign that the food she has eaten is moving too quickly through the GI tract to pick up bile. It can also be a sign of a liver or biliary issue. Given that she is ok otherwise, I'd keep an eye on her for now. If she develops other signs such as vomiting, lethargy, or loss of appetite, then I would be very concerned and have her seen by an ER vet right away. Otherwise, it's fine to wait until Monday to have her seen. This weekend, feed her a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice. I hope this helps.

The color of the stool is usually associated with something they are eating, but the yellow/orange color can sometimes be associated with liver disease. Since Marley does not seem to be responding to previous medical treatments, I would recommend that you discuss additional diagnostics with your vet. I would start with an intestinal parasite screening, and if that is negative, move on to bloodwork and/or a GI panel (specialized bloodwork). Occasionally all labs can be normal and surgical or endoscopic intestinal biopsies are needed.

It is possible that Sophie has a dietary indiscretion to the current diet or treats you are feeding her. I would recommend trying a different meat protein and see if this helps or try a sensitive stomach formula to see if this helps as well. Sometimes switching to a completely different brand helps as well. If the problem persists, I would recommend having a veterinarian test her stool for fecal parasites just to be on the safe side. Hi and thanks for your post! The orangish color of Chloe's loose feces may be caused by what she ate recently. I see a part of a corn cob (?) which could explain the yellow-orange color. It is likely caused by something she ate recently and I wouldn't worry too much unless she starts to have diarrhea, vomiting or decreased appetite or if you notice the feces are still orange-yellow present after a few days. That is good that you actually took photos! It’s so much easier to see the stool than to get a verbal description. Loose stool can be a sign of many conditions and if you are seeing frequent signs of it, it could indicate parasites, inflammatory bowel disease, bacterial over growth or just dietary intolerance. At 2 years old, Harley is not likely to have other conditions that can cause frequent soft stools like liver or kidney disease, or lymphoma but it is possible. Take a look around her environment and see if there’s anything she could’ve gotten into in the house or the yard. Dogs will often eat things that upset their stomach’s like dead earthworms or garbage. I recommend to call your veterinarian and let them know what is happening. They may ask to see Harley earlier or they may post pone her vaccines. If Harley is acting completely normal, is not having any vomiting and has a normal appetite, this could just be a passing thing. Go ahead and switch her to a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (25%) and boiled plain white rice (75%). It will measure out cup for cup of just like her dog food. Feed her this for 24 hours and if things are looking better wean her back to her regular food over a couple days. if Harley is showing signs of illness, then I would recommend to have her seen today if possible. Take in a stool sample when she goes to the vet as she is likely due for parasite testing anyway. I hope this is helpful and that she gets back to Norma quickly!
