My dog is licking his penis with stinky tan discharge. Is it a UTI?

Max's penis is definitely irritated. Most importantly, make sure he is able to urinate normally. If he is straining to urinate or unable to produce urine or urinating blood , he may have a blocked bladder, and this is an emergency. Otherwise, continue to monitor him for signs of pain or discomfort. It may be a good idea to have a urine sample tested by your veterinarian to make sure he doesn't have a urinary tract infection or evidence of bladder stones.

The strong smell to his urine can be an indication of a UTI, and oftentimes there is blood in the urine but it is not visible to the naked eye, only under the microscope. I would have him seen by a vet first thing in the morning. The vet can do a physical exam, blood tests, and urinalysis to diagnose if he does have a UTI, and can prescribe medications for it as needed.

Poor Larry. The color change is most likely to him licking/biting at his penis and causing a small amount of trauma. I would recommend taking larry to the vet to determine the cause of the discharge. It is possible that larry has a urinary tract infection or possible normal discharge because he is not neutered. I would try and check and make sure he does not have anything around his penis that might be causing him pain/discomfort. However, a vet visit would be best. Green discharge is an normal occurrence in unneutered dogs, but inflammation on the tip of the penis is not. it could be an infection, putting a cream locally is not likely to help, you will need to take him to the vet as he may need an antibiotic course or anti inflammatories.

A certain amount of discharge, especially in intact male dogs, may be normal. This discharge is known as smegma. If there is an increased amount or if you notice a foul odor, excessive licking and difficulty urinating, then it may be that he has an infection either in the [urinary tract](https://www.petcoach.co/dog/condition/utis-in-dogs) or under the prepuce. Take him to your regular vet when they open for an examination and diagnosis. They will be able to provide appropriate pain relief and treatment.

You could try to clean the area with a mild soap and water. You can put a cone collar on his to prevent licking so he doesn't make the infection worse. If it's a urinary tract infection, it likely won't get better without oral antibiotics but you can try to encourage him to drink more water to help flush him out. I hope this helps.
