Dog licking private area with discharge. Home remedies for infection?

Given the discomfort and licking i recommend a vet visit over the next day or so to rule out infections and to rule out any prostatic disease. In the meantime i would not recommend using vinegar as this can be quite irritating if any wound or inflammation is present and may aggravate things further

The main concern is if it is an infection being that close to the opening, it has potential to travel up the urethra and cause a bladder infection. You can try to clean the area with soap and water and apply cortisone alternate with Neosporin to soothe the area, just discourage licking while it is one. This will help coat the area to minimize the contamination. If it does not improve or it continues to bother him, then I would get it checked out.

Usually penile discharge is due to an infection of the penile tissue itself known as balanitis. His constant licking will be leading to more inflammation. Your vet should be able to treat this easily with antibiotics and it would be good to have him wear a cone to stop the licking whilst it heals.

Ouch! Poor Dylan! This looks like a little local infection that he has been licking. I would place an e-collar I him to prevent licking. You can clean it with mild soap and water. This is probably due to an allergy, although it could also be infection or mites. Unfortunately not as urinary tract infections must be confirmed by your local veterinarian. Stress related (idiopathic type of inflammation) infection and presence of crystals are the most common causes of it. Antibiotics may be needed.
