My dog is lethargic, in pain, and won't bend down. What's wrong?

The hiccups were probably because Charlie was retching before he vomited. I'm concerned about him not moving much, and of he yelps he's probably in pain. I recommend taking him to the vet either tonight or first thing tomorrow to be examined. There are many possible illnesses that could present this way. Do not give human pain medicines as they're often toxic to dogs.

I'm sorry to hear that Charlie isn't feeling well. His behavior certainly doesn't normal for him. I would recommend that he sees his veterinarian. It is not uncommon for small breed dogs to experience back or neck pain. The pain can be intense. Sign in the dog are usually a reluctance to jump on furniture, refusal to do stairs, shaking and hesitant to move. In worst case scenarios, some dogs was will experience neurologic problems such as weakness or paralysis of the limbs. Charlie will need to see his veterinarian to know if this is what is causing his symptoms verses something else. In the meantime, keep him quiet and encourage him to eat and drink. Sounds like he may have neck pain. You need to crate rest him for 2-3 weeks meaning strict cage confinement and short leash walks only. Do not use a neck collar. Purchase a harness to go around his body. Also, do not allow him to run, jump or rough with other dogs during this period of rest. Hope he feels better soon!

It could be that Charlie is sore from getting hit by your other dog, and I would rest him for the next 48 hours. No running, jumping, or playing. Take him out to toilet on a lead only, and bring him right back in when he's done. If he still appears painful after this time, then I would take him into the vet for an exam. The vet can diagnose where the pain is coming from, and can dictate a treatment plan for it. He may also benefit from some pain medications, which the vet can prescribe. Hi there. While it is not abnormal for Charlie to be lethargic and behave differently when everyone leaves-this is a bit much. I would recommend taking him in to your veterinarian in case something else is going on. Pancreatitis, intoxication, and a few other diseases can start with this presentation. Shivering in dogs is often a pain response (can also be nervousness, cold, etc). If these behaviors continue I recommend taking him in as soon as you can to try to prevent it from getting worse. Do not let your children be rough with him, as it may worsen his condition, and also is not safe for the children, as Charlie may feel forced to defend himself and accidentally injure them. Poor baby. It sounds like he may have injured something. It is common for them to injure their back or neck and act this way. I would have your vet look st him today. Your vet will be able to localize the pain and give him the appropriate pain meds to help him feel better. If it is his lower back, you vet may also prescribe him a stool softener so it is easier for him to have a bowel movement. Your vet will also be able to do X-rays if needed.
