My small dog is shaking, lethargic, and can't jump. What's wrong?

Hi there. While it is not abnormal for Charlie to be lethargic and behave differently when everyone leaves-this is a bit much. I would recommend taking him in to your veterinarian in case something else is going on. Pancreatitis, intoxication, and a few other diseases can start with this presentation. Shivering in dogs is often a pain response (can also be nervousness, cold, etc). If these behaviors continue I recommend taking him in as soon as you can to try to prevent it from getting worse. It sounds as she might be suffering from a back problem, probably a slipped disk in her spine which is common for the breed. you will need to take her to the vet, she will need pain killers for a couple weeks and will need to be in cage rest as well for this time.

I'm concerned that Charlie is very unwell, and I highly recommend taking him in to a vet immediately, or getting a housecall vet to your home. Do not let your children be rough with him, as it may worsen his condition, and also is not safe for the children, as Charlie may feel forced to defend himself and accidentally injure them. Cavalier King Charles Spaniels can be prone to heart disease and also a condition called syringomyelia that can lead to neurological symptoms. He may also be dealing with infectious disease or trauma leading to his symptoms, but it is not possible to tell without having him examined by a vet, so I recommend having him seen by one right away. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Jack! Jack is obviously painful! Beagles commonly get slipped disks in their backs and suffer from back and neck pain. The symptoms you are describing occur with back or neck pain. It is best to have Jack seen by a Vet. I treat back pain with strict rest, anti-inflammatories, muscle relaxants and pain medications. I do not recommend starting human medications as they might interfere with your vet's choice of medications. I hope this helps and I wish Jack the best!

It could still be pain associated with a leg even if nothing seems wrong with them. I recommend that you have Pari evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Likely diagnostics include radiographs. Treatment would be based on findings. At the very least they can prescribe pain control medications to make Pari feel better. In the meantime, reduce her activity as much as possible as that in itself can make a big difference. Good luck and have a good day!

If this is unusual behavior for your dog I would be concerned that there's something wrong. Shaking and lethargy can be indicative of pain, anxiety or that the pet just isn't feeling well. I would recommend that you take her to be seen by your regular veterinarian. A thorough examination will help determine what may be wrong and how to make her feel better

Hello. Trembling & lethargy can be signs of pain or a fever from an infection. If you can take her temperature ( any oral or rectal thermometer inserted just a small way into the rectum ) will work. If Molly's temp is above 103 F, you might want to have her seen today. Otherwise, try to keep her from jumping on or off furniture & carry her up & down any stairs in case she has somehow injured a disc in her neck or spine. Hopefully she will be feeling better soon.
