My dog ate lead. What are the treatment options for lead poisoning?

One additional thought to add to Dr. Melanie's excellent advice: lead-based paint fragments would show up on an x-ray, so if you are unable to verify the age and thus suspected lead-content of the paint that Thor ate, you could take him into your vet for a set of abdominal xrays, which should confirm the presence of lead, if it's there.

It's best to induce vomiting as soon as possible. If it was ingested within the last 60 minutes, then you have a good chance of keeping it all from getting absorbed. Any treatment now will be purely supportive. Monitor for vomiting, jaundice, lethargy, increased respiration and anemia. Liver and kidney function should be checked via blood test to rule out damage from the dose of acetaminophen ingested. Further supportive care may be indicated if liver/kidney function is compromised. This may include IV fluids and blood transfusions if indicated.

Decon is a highly toxic rat bait that cause death through the disruption of calcium and phosphorus ratio by absorption of vitamin D. Even very small quantities are toxic as only a .1mg/kg dose is known to start producing toxic effects. Also troubling is that clinical signs are sometimes not present for days after the ingestion. As a result, I would highly recommend bring Luna to your local ER for 24-48 hours of IV fluid therapy, Activated Charcoal, and generalized GI support. The use of charcoal in many toxic exposures is useful in up to and further than 24 hours in some cases. I would also encourage you to open up an active case to the ASPCA poison control hot line and provide the case number to your veterinarian should you go this route. It is about 65 dollar but gives you and your vet access to a board certified veterinary toxicologist. Hope this makes sense.

Pokey sounds very ill and needs immediate veterinary treatment. This could be from poison or more likely an infection, metabolic problem or cancer. She definitely needs IV fluids to prevent dehydration which can become life threatening. In general with most poisons they would die quickly. Since this has been going on for a few days there is a good chance with proper treatment she could recover quickly.
