Why are my dog's inner eye corners always wet? Is she crying?

She could have a problem with her tear duct, allergies, or it might be that she has a hair, eyelash or something causing irritation. Since this is a chronic problem, she should be examined by a vet to determine the cause. Your vet can prescribe an anti-histamine, antibiotic, anti-inflammatory, or other medications, if needed.

Yes, allergies can cause excessive tearing. Other causes include obstructed tear ducts and tiny eyelashes rubbing against the cornea (distichiasis). Have Smokey examined by your veterinarian for a diagnosis. The eye should be stained to rule out corneal injury as well. Antihistamines may help allergies, flushing the tear ducts may open them up and having the lashes plucked should decrease tearing.

Poor Pippa! I definitely see the discharge in the inner corner of her eye, and a little bit of redness. You should definitely have her examined by a vet as soon as possible, because eye issues can turn into emergencies very quickly. The discharge can be due to conjunctivitis, a foreign body, or even a scratch in the cornea (this condition is dangerous as it can quickly progress and even cause a dog to lose their eye). In the meantime, you can get Pippa an E-collar (or "cone") to prevent her from scratching the eye and causing further damage and apply artificial tears to the eye two to three times per day. Hello, sorry to hear about Poli. There are several things that could make dogs eyes painful so that they have to squint and tearful. Most commonly, especially if this happened suddenly, a corneal scratch or ulcer could be causing this. Corneal ulcers can take a couple of days to heal but require ointments and sometimes even lenses to protect the cornea thus allowing it to heal. Corneal ulcers can occur due to trauma, a foreign body, an eye infection, or even abnormal eye lashes or hair. Unfortunately these are quite painful and should be evaluated by your veterinarian so that they can give her any medications she may need. Other less common but more aggressive things that can cause her signs include things such as glaucoma, uveitis, and foreign bodies. These can also be ruled out by your veterinarian. Sorry to hear that Mushy's been going through this. I am sure it is getting frustrating. Chronic tearing is not a very common condition. If it hasn't been done yet, make sure the next vet you see performs a Schirmer Tear Test to determine how much tears are being produced. They will be able to quantify overproduction if this is the case. If over production of the tears is present and the surgery of ingrown hair removal was not successful in resolving the issue, you may also want to consider visiting with a veterinary ophthalmologist. Depending on the breed and eye conformation, some dogs will have tears that spill over the inside corner of the eye instead of draining down the tear ducts as they should. If this has been a life-long problem for Ziggy, then it may be due to his body conformation. However, there are some skin complications that can come from the crusting on the fur and some treatments that can either improve the eye draining or help prevent skin problems from the fur crusting, so I do think it would be worth having your vet examine Ziggy Stardust to see if there is anything you can do about this situation. There could be swelling pressing on the nasolacrimal ducts which hinders tear fluid in draining via the ducts. This can happen due to tooth root abscesses or other dental problems. There is also a possibility that the nasolacrimal ducts are obstructed and need flushing. As long as the fluid is clear and no eye infection is present, it is not something I would worry about too much, however have the tear ducts and teeth checked next time you take Bailey to a veterinarian for vaccinations or a check-up.
