My dog is limping on her back leg. What pain meds can I give?

Unfortunately there are no pain relievers you can give Roxy. Many human ones are toxic to dogs, and can be fatal if given. I recommend resting her for the next 48 hours. No running, jumping, or playing. Take her out to toilet on a leash, and bring her right back in when she's done. If she still appears painful after this time, then I would take her into the vet for an exam. The vet can diagnose where the pain is coming from, and can dictate a treatment plan for it. She may also benefit from some pain medications, which the vet can prescribe.

Poor Foxi sounds like she is painful! Arthritis is common in older dogs. I would take her into the vet for an exam. The vet can diagnose if she is suffering from arthritis, and can give her some pain meds for it. Rimadyl (an NSAID) is a good drug to give to help with the symptoms of arthritis. Please do not give her any human pain medications, as many are toxic to dogs and can be fatal if given. I also recommend giving her glucosamine or chondroitin sulfate supplements. They provide the necessary nutrients for cartilage repair and function. Use of them helps relieve some of the symptoms of arthritis, and you can use it in conjunction with Rimadyl to help maximize relief from her symptoms. Since she's been lame for a week, an exam with your veterinarian would be recommended. X-rays to diagnose fractures may be indicated after a physical exam. There are very few OTC medications you can give a dog for pain at home. Most are toxic or easy to overdose. Do not medicate Diamond without the advice of your veterinarian.

Hi. Unless the pain medication was prescribed for her, do not give her anything, the human medications or over the counter medications aren't always safe and don't have same doses for dogs then people. If her pain level is that bad, I'd go to ER to get pain meds

I would recommend keeping her as calm and quiet as possible to avoid aggravating her injury further, and taking her to the vet tomorrow for an exam to find out what's going on.

Limping can be due to many reasons that go from relatively uncomplicated such as soft tissue injuries and osteoarthritis to more complicated and serious injuries such as fractures and even bone tumors. There are prescription pain medications you should discuss with your veterinarian. Anti-inflammatory medications like Rimadyl, Metacam, or Galliprant are all possible options for pain control. Please remember there are no safe over the counter pain medications for dogs so you will need to get these from your veterinarian.
