My dog hit her eye on a bumper. It's blue and squinting. What now?

You can rinse the eye with sterile eye solution to get any product out of the eye. If she's still squinting and the cornea is blueish tomorrow morning please take her in for an exam. She may have a scratch on her cornea which is painful and can result in a corneal ulcer. They will stain the eye and can prescribe medication if needed. I suspect this a corneal ulcer but it is hard to be sure without full clinical examination. The right eye does not look as bad but there is also abnormal looking cornea. Oh no, Lucy's eye looks quite bad from the picture! The eye is such a delicate and important structure that any problem with it should be considered an emergency. That's because leaving it untreated can lead to vision loss. Lucy has to see a vet now, it cannot wait until next Friday. Unfortunately, there is nothing you can do for her at home, but I can give you some resources that may help you afford a vet.  Brown Dog Foundation provides funding to families with a sick pet that would likely respond to treatment, but due to circumstances, there is not enough money immediately available to pay. IMOM is dedicated to insure that no companion animal has to be euthanized simply because their caretaker is financially challenged. I hope one of these resources helps you afford a vet for Lucy. It is very hard to make out the photo but I can see the blue, redness and discharge. You are right the dig needs to see a vet. There appears to be an infection going on and the blue colour either means oedema of the cornea which is the transparent eye layer at the front, or uveitis which is inflammation behind the cornea. I would suspect tgat the cornea may be damged which is very serious. Either way the dog needs a vet because at best this will require eye drops to heal but may need more extensive treatment. It is currently the owners responsibility so I would remind her of her obligation to keep the animal healthy and urge her to visit the vet.

I recommend to have her examined tonight. The squinting could be due to pain but it could also be due to scratch or abrasion on the cornea which is very painful and can get worse quickly. I'm not sure what the 'film' is since I can't see it but it sounds concerning as well. Best to play it safe with Belle. This is a medical emergency, and Blu has to see a vet now. His eye could have been severely injured, and leaving this untreated can lead to vision loss. Please take him into an ER vet clinic; if there isn't one in your area, there will be a vet on call for emergencies. The information to reach that vet is found on a clinic's answering machine or website.

Hello and welcome to Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Bumps on eye-lids can be cysts, but they can also be other masses like tumors. For this reason getting it checked is recommended. In the mean-time, I would check for squinting, moving away from your hand when you go to pet him on that side of the face, redness/blueness/whiteness of the eye-ball itself that is different from the other eye, or scratching/pawing at the eye. If any of these are occuring, then I would take Marley to a vet. If he isn't too concerned about it, and isn't squinting or moving away from you, and is only minimally pawing at it, then I would recommend getting an E-collar (you can pick one up from any emergency clinic without an appointment as it is now late in Australia), to prevent ongoing trauma to the eye which can get much much worse with scratching. I would then get Marley to your vet in the morning. Best of luck with Marley.
