Dog's eye watery, blue/gray film. How to get urgent vet help?

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Female | 7 lbs

My dog's right eye is watery and seems to have like a layer of blue or Gray on his eye, what can I do to help him? I can't afford a vet until next Friday and I don't want it to get worst if it is something bad. Any suggestions?

Oh no, Lucy's eye looks quite bad from the picture! The eye is such a delicate and important structure that any problem with it should be considered an emergency. That's because leaving it untreated can lead to vision loss. Lucy has to see a vet now, it cannot wait until next Friday. Unfortunately, there is nothing you can do for her at home, but I can give you some resources that may help you afford a vet. You
can see if your vet accepts payment plans, if there is a low cost clinic in your area, or you can apply for Care Credit online. There is also an organization called Red Rover that give grants for treatment of sick animals, and you can see if you qualify for one of their grants. Best Friends also has a list of resources that offer financial assistance on their website.

God's Creatures Ministry helps pay for veterinarian bills for those who need help.

The Onyx & Breezy Foundation has many programs including helping people with medical bills. They are a good resource for information.

Brown Dog Foundation provides funding to families with a sick pet that would likely respond to treatment, but due to circumstances, there is not enough money immediately available to pay.
IMOM is dedicated to insure that no companion animal has to be euthanized simply because their caretaker is financially challenged.

    It looks like your dog is pretty young. Based on this assumption and what I can see in the picture, it appears that your dog's cornea may have been compromised. While I can not comment on the severity of the condition, the entire eye does look affected. I understand that you have financial constraints, but often these types of issues can be very time sensitive. Simple, non complex corneal injuries can turn into very complicated problems if they are left without treatment. Other things that the cause the eye to appear that way include cataracts, but this would be extremely uncommon to see in a young dog particularly in one eye. You might be able to get some neo-poly-bac ophthalmic ointment over the counter. If you do decide to go out and obtain ophthalmic medication, whatever you get, do not get something with a steroid. If the eye is ulcerated, this will make the problem worse. My advise to you is to get to the vet as soon as possible. Waiting until next Friday could prove to have disastrous consequences.

My 5-month-old dog has a blue eye. Should I take him to the vet?
It is very hard to make out the photo but I can see the blue, redness and discharge. You are right the dig needs to see a vet. There appears to be an infection going on and the blue colour either means oedema of the cornea which is the transparent eye layer at the front, or uveitis which is inflammation behind the cornea. I would suspect tgat the cornea may be damged which is very serious. Either way the dog needs a vet because at best this will require eye drops to heal but may need more extensive treatment. It is currently the owners responsibility so I would remind her of her obligation to keep the animal healthy and urge her to visit the vet.

Hello and thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. The cornea in the left eye looks very abnormal. I suspect this a corneal ulcer but it is hard to be sure without full clinical examination. The right eye does not look as bad but there is also abnormal looking cornea. Please, take Rey to your local vets taking all the necessary precautions against Covid-19. She should be seen by a vet right away.
