My dog has green sticky eye discharge, red eyelid. Is it pinkeye?

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Mikey! The discharge doesn't look yellow or green so I do not think it is infected...yet. If this is more discharge than he Mikey normally has it could be allergies or the start of a bacterial conjunctivitis or pink eye. Especially if he goes to dog parks or doggie day care. I would make an appointment with your Vet for an evaluation. If warranted they may prescribe an ocular antibiotic drop or ointment. I hope this helps and I wish Mikey a speedy recovery!

Hi, thanks for using PetCoach! Poor guy! if the discharge didn't resolve with an ocular antibiotic it likely isn't a bacterial conjunctivitis. I would recommend having your Vet test for dry eye and then treat for allergies. Since he is rubbing his chin he could have allergies to his environment. He may need an eye ointment with steroids in it and be put on a systemic antihistamine. Below is a link to one you can try. I would also recommend preventing your other dog from licking the eye as he could be contributing to an infection. The foul breath could be dental disease or from the type of food you feed. Green discharge from the eyes usually means infection so she will likely need antibiotics to get this to clear up. In the meantime you can use this over the counter eye flush to help. At least in these pictures, his cornea appears affected. I highly recommend that you have him evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Poor Pippa! I definitely see the discharge in the inner corner of her eye, and a little bit of redness. You should definitely have her examined by a vet as soon as possible, because eye issues can turn into emergencies very quickly. The discharge can be due to conjunctivitis, a foreign body, or even a scratch in the cornea (this condition is dangerous as it can quickly progress and even cause a dog to lose their eye). In the meantime, you can get Pippa an E-collar (or "cone") to prevent her from scratching the eye and causing further damage and apply artificial tears to the eye two to three times per day.
