My dog has daily eye discharge and hazy/brown eyes. Is it pink eye?

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Wiski! Yes! A viral or bacterial conjunctivitis or allergies is the most common cause for his signs. There are contagious doggie "pink eye" that they get from doggie daycare or playing with other dogs. It is best for your Vet to examine Wiskie and prescribe eye safe drops or ointment. I recommend that you have them evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. This could be due to an eye injury or conditions such as a corneal laceration, corneal ulcer, conjunctivitis, dry eye (also known as KCS), among many other conditions. Hi, thanks for using PetCoach! Poor guy! if the discharge didn't resolve with an ocular antibiotic it likely isn't a bacterial conjunctivitis. I would recommend having your Vet test for dry eye and then treat for allergies. Since he is rubbing his chin he could have allergies to his environment. He may need an eye ointment with steroids in it and be put on a systemic antihistamine. Below is a link to one you can try. I would also recommend preventing your other dog from licking the eye as he could be contributing to an infection. The foul breath could be dental disease or from the type of food you feed. Hello. Other than cleaning the discharge as it appears each day with a little warm water, you can flush the eyes with artificial tears to remove any allergens that may be affecting the cornea. This is not a cure, so if the discharge persists, worsens, or Iker shows any signs of pain or discomfort in his eyes, redness or conjunctival swelling, please see your veterinarian at your earliest convenience. Iker may have mild allergies, but he may also be developing conjunctivitis so do not let it go on too long without following up with your veterinarian.
