Can I use human artificial tears for my dog's green eye discharge?

You can try applying some drops to her eyes 3-4 times a day to see if this resolves her clinical signs. Yellow discharge can be a sign of infection, however, which requires eye medications prescribed by your veterinarian. They will first want to perform a full ocular exam to look for evidence of corneal scratches or ulcers, as this would alter treatment. If you are seeing green eye discharge in Chacha's eyes, this could indicate there is a problem such as dry eye, which should be diagnosed / treated by a veterinarian. There is specific treatment for dry eye that you will not find over the counter (Optimmune ointment or Tacrolimus ointment) which helps stimulate tear production. The over the counter products simply lubricate the eyes and do not last long enough. You can try an over the counter dry eye medication for dogs such as OPTIXCARE, which you can find online. I recommend you use an E-collar so he doesn't rub the eye and cause a scratch on the surface of the eye. Do not put anything in the eye until you see your Vet. Ointments or drops for the eye are made specifically to be safe for use in the eye. Ointments for the skin are not safe to be put in the eye. I wish you the best and Nico a speedy recovery!

If it is just a little bit of discharge, then I would continue to monitor it. Tobramycin is an antibiotic, and if it was prescribed for Jackie, it should be safe. But you don't want to accidentally treat a bacterial infection when the true cause of the discharge is something like a corneal ulcer. Applying this medication before a vet makes a diagnosis may make it harder for the vet to determine the cause of the issue, if needed. Use a warm wet washcloth to remove the discharge. If it continues in a couple of hours, I would recommend that you call the vet that prescribes the medication to see if they recommend an exam or that you use the ointment.

0.03% Naphazoline with 0.5% glycerine is safe to use in dogs and cat. These are the main ingredients found in Clear Eyes. The recommended dose is 1-2 drops in the eye(s) every 6-8 hrs. If no improvement or worsening of signs within 24-48 hrs then your pet should be seen by your veterinarian to make sure nothing else is going on with the eyes.

If you just need to remove the eye discharge, you can put warm water on a cotton ball and gently wipe the inside corner of the eye. If the discharge quickly returns or you notice discharge in the eye as well, you can use any sterile saline eye wash made for humans. If the discharge is not resolving after a couple of day or is getting worse at any point, then I would have your veterinarian recheck the eye and determine if any medication is needed to resolve the problem.
