My dog's genital area is bleeding when he licks it. What is it?

Zelig's anal area looks quite swollen and red. He could have impacted and infected anal sacs causing him to lick there excessively and the bleeding. To keep him from licking at it, you can put an Ecollar on him. You can get one at a pet store or make one at home. Have him seen by a vet in the morning to have this treated. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! This could be a benign or malignant growth. There is no way of knowing what it is just based on its appearance. This is often differentiated by a test called a fine needle aspirate (FNA) which is a pain free, inexpensive and easy procedure which in most cases will help reach a diagnosis. Sometimes a biopsy is needed for a definitive diagnosis. This is not going to away on its own and needs attention. I recommend that you have him evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. I am really hoping for something benign. Good luck and have a good day!

This looks like an infected wound. It's possible Compton did this himself, meaning no trauma like a bite wound. It is unlikely to be related to his reproductive abnormality, I cannot tell what caused him to start licking this area but allergies would be a concern. Because of how deep and raw it looks I recommend having your veterinarian do an exam and Compton will likely need antibiotics and maybe steroids to help this clear. In the meantime keep his area clean and dry and have Compton wear an ecollar to prevent him from any further licking.

His penis looks inflamed, possibly infected, you will need to take him to the vet to get it checked, he will need to wear an e-collar in order to prevent from him to continue licking his penis and getting it worse, he will also need an antibiotic course.

This definitely appears uncomfortable, and I can see that Diggory has been licking at it by the wet fur. As long as Diggory is acting normally, eating/drinking, and not vomiting; it is most likely okay to wait until tomorrow morning to have the area looked at by a vet. You can get him an E-collar or "cone" to keep him from bothering the area. I don't recommend putting a bandage on it, as Diggory is likely to rip it off and possibly eat it. This may be caused by an infection, allergic reaction, or even certain types of cancer. A vet will be able to prescribe antibiotics, medicated shampoos/ointments, and pain medication to keep Diggory comfortable until you get to your family vet. Hello. Poor baby. He needs to see a veterinarian as soon as possible. I cannot tell if this is a tumor or somehow the penis has been trapped outside the sheath. Either way, he needs immediate care, especially if whatever is going on prevents him from urinating properly. This looks very painful & I hope you can have him seen quickly. Unfortunately there is not picture attached to your post, so I'm not sure what this area looks like. It could be he has a rash, skin infection, or fungal infection, and he's making it worse by licking the area. Dogs lick an area when it's really bothering them. I would take him into a vet first thing in the morning. The vet can diagnose what is causing this issue, and can treat him. Best of luck.
