Why is my dog licking his genital wounds and making them worse?

This looks like an infected wound. It's possible Compton did this himself, meaning no trauma like a bite wound. It is unlikely to be related to his reproductive abnormality, I cannot tell what caused him to start licking this area but allergies would be a concern. Because of how deep and raw it looks I recommend having your veterinarian do an exam and Compton will likely need antibiotics and maybe steroids to help this clear. In the meantime keep his area clean and dry and have Compton wear an ecollar to prevent him from any further licking.

Hello there and thank you for posting your picture and concern about Choppies! From the picture you sent, it looks like Choppies has caused quite a bit of irritation and inflammation on his scrotum. I would pick up a plastic cone from the pet store to put around his head so that he is not able to lick this and then get him in to see your veterinarian for an examination. There are multiple possible causes of this, which include thermal burn, inflammation of structures inside the scrotum causing Choppies to lick due to the discomfort, infection or behavioral. Hi there and thank you for your post! From the pictures you posted, it looks like Chico may have a hot spot (moist dermatitis) area in front of his prepuce / penis. Some of the area appears to be yellow and this might indicate it is infected. I would get your vet to check this out so that Chico can receive the appropriate treatment. Most likely he will need an oral antibiotic and some topical ointments to treat the area. If he is constantly licking the area, I would get a plastic cone to keep around his head to prevent him from licking the area and making it worse. I hope this helps! That area looks pretty inflamed. If there is also discharge coming from the wound, I would worry it is infected. It will need to be seen by your vet so they can clip the area and clean it, and provide any medications such as antibiotics to treat the infection. Until you can get to your vet, keeping the area clean and dry and preventing Alvin from licking with the use of an Elizabethan (cone) collar is best.

Blonde looks like he has significant inflammation and likely an infection as well. More severe conditions like this are unlikely to resolve with home care. Most of these pets need antibiotics and medications to decrease inflammation. I recommend to take him in to be seen by his veterinarian. The condition will likely only get worse and he probably has some degree of discomfort. Many things can cause this degree of information including deep bacterial infections, allergies, nights or ringworm (which humans can get). At home you can wash the area with antibacterial soap and rinse well with cool water. This however is unlikely to control or repair the problem. He also should wear an Elizabethan collar at all times to prevent him from licking at the area as this tends to make it worse. They would be able to check the extent of the wounds and see what would be best to treat them. What you can do in the meantime is use an e-collar in the to prevent further injury. The first thing you need to do is put a cone collar on him to keep him from continuing to lick the skin. He has scrotal dermatitis (an infection of the scrotal skin) and no matter what you use to treat It with, if he just continues to lick, it will not get better. So, get the cone collar ASAP and then apply this Vetericyn spray (linked below) to the affected area 2-3 times per day. If after about 5=7 days of doing this, it is not better than you need to have him checked by your vet.
