My dog has gas, belching, bad breath after stomach surgery. Help?

We certainly can see some dogs that will take in extra air into their GI tract when they have anesthesia, but it would be very odd for that extra gas to last for 2 weeks. I think the answer partially depends on the time frame. If the gas started when you transitioned back from I/D to the regular diet, I wonder if the transition was a little too fast for Baby Girl. In general, The Honest Kitchen is a wonderful company and the digestive supplement is good for any GI upset or soft stool, but it does have some fiber in it, so if Baby Girl is sensitive to increased levels of fiber, then that could certainly cause extra gas. I think the easiest test would be to stop the Gastrointestinal Supplement for a few days and see if the gas improves. If not, then you may need to look at her diet. Good luck! Excessive flatulence can have several causes. If Cujo eats fast, he may be swallowing a lot of air which has to come out eventually from either end. Divide his meals into smaller, more frequent portions or use a "slow feed" bowl to regulate his eating. You can also raise the bowls to prevent or limit air swallowing. Parasites can also be the cause. You can submit a stool sample to your vet to diagnose intestinal parasites. Diet plays a large role as well. Feed a premium diet, preferably grain free. These diets are more easily digested and the lack of grains decreases possible fermentation in the gut. You can also consider a probiotic such as ProViable or ProStora to promote gut health.

I am so sorry to hear that your pet is so ill. Build up of gas in the stomach is often times caused by either bacteria sitting in the gut (if the intestines are not distended), or due to a foreign body obstruction or partial obstruction (if the intesitnes are also distended). If she has an underling heart condition, this further complicates things. In order to best help you we will need to go over the details of Elsie's condition to get all the necessary information and details of her treatment. This is a very complicated matter and we want you to get all the information needed to make an educated decision moving forward with Elsie. Also I am not sure what symptoms she currently has because you only mentioned that she is "sick". This can mean a lot of different things and should be clarified before recommending any additional treatments for her. Change his diet to boiled chicken and rice a GI formukabsince it is easy to digest. You can also add a probiotic to the food to help replenish the good, normal bacteria. If this does not help you can try gas x. If it continues then I would consider a check for parasites and blood work to make sure oral medicine is it needed

Stomach gas usually occurs due to indigestion or food allergy, which could have triggered pancreatitis as well. unfortunately the options are very limited when it comes to food, i usually recommend Royal Canine low fat for pancreatitis but this is not likely to resolve the gas problem. one thing that could help though is a medication called Ulsanic, you should ask your vet about this option.

If this is the only sign you could try changing to a highly digestible diet (like Hill’s i/d or Royal Canin Gastrointestinal Low Fat) as long as she doesn’t have any food intolerances or diseases requiring a therapeutic diet. Sometimes I also have people try a probiotic like Fortiflora. If she has also had a decrease in appetite, diarrhea or weight loss you should see your veterinarian.

If negative, I would recommend changing her diet to something less rich. In the US, I recommend Science Diet or Purina One Smartblend.
