What to do if my pet has fur in its eye and I can't see a vet?

HI, thanks for using PetCoach! Most cats and dogs that get thick mucous or a hair stuck on their eye are just fine. They eventually are able to blink enough to get the hair off the eye. These animals do not even notice it meaning the eye is open and not red. If Oliver is keeping his eye closed and seems painful then he needs to see a Vet. It could be something stuck irritating the eye or he could have a scratch on his eye, uveitis or glaucoma. Hello. So sorry that Frodo is having this issue. You can certainly try to rinse the eye with saline solution. You can buy it at any chemist. Just like you would use for humans: http://www.pharmacyonline.com.au/reclens-normal-saline-500ml?icn=SLI-Search&ici=Reclens%20Normal%20Saline%20500ml Rinse the eye thoroughly with it open and then close the eyelids and massage gently. If the "fluff" does not come off then you should take him in to your vet for an exam. You don't want to mess around too much with an eye at home because you can really injure the eye if you do not know what you are doing. You can get some sterile saline and use that to flush her eyes twice daily until you are able to get her into the vet. You should be able to find some sterile saline at a pharmacy. That’s a hair or fiber on Felix’s cornea. If you have eye drops at home or can pick up artificial tears or visine at your local drug store, you can flush it off of his eye that way. Avoid touching his eye with your fingers to avoid damaging his cornea. You might be able to push it down to the lower eyelid edge of his eye where you can pull it away by very gently closing his eyelids. Good luck!

Tilt your dog's head back and hold open the eyelid with your thumb and forefinger or middle finger. Flush the eye for 10 to 15 minutes using cool water, or preferably a sterile saline eyewash or artificial tears. To flush the eye, hold the bottle of saline solution/artificial tears directly above the eye and squirt a gentle but steady stream of fluid into the eye. Or you can soak a wad of cotton in the water/solution and squeeze it into the eye repeatedly. If the foreign body cannot be removed by irrigation, seek veterinary attention.

This is highly likely. Dogs commonly get their hair stuck in their eyes and unable to get it out. The eyes cope by producing that mucus. You could try to flush it out using an eye irrigating solution and gently using a piece of damp gauze to wipe it out if needed. I hope this helps!
