My cat needs eyedrops, but the vet is booked. What can I do?

To get fur out of the eye you can use saline solution, which is usually available at a store or pharmacy near the contact lens solution. You can gently flush the eye and massage the eyelids to try and clear the fur. I hope this helps. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.

Ear infections are not an emergency per se, but do need to be addressed when your vet is open. If you don’t have a pet ear cleaner, I would leave it alone until you see your vet. Hello. I am so sorry for your worries with Parker. It does look like the conjunctiva & third eyelid are a bit swollen, but the rest of the eye & cornea are very quiet. Unless Parker is very uncomfortable with his eye, & you are worried that by pawing he could do more harm, you can wait for his appointment in the morning. You just need to use your best judgement as to whether this can wait or not. I see no reason not to use a rinse approved for use in a cat's eye, but if it seems to irritate the eye more, then stop its use & just have Parker seen in the morning. If the discharge is continuous, or he is squinting or eyes are matted closed he should see a veterinarian to determine the cause of the ocular discharge. Do not use any sort of eye drops without a veterinary prescription. Treatment will vary depending on the cause of the infection or inflammation.

Hello and thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. From the pictures you posted it does not look that there is anything very serious going on with her left eye. Squinting the eye could be result of trauma (usually scratch from another cat) or infection. Please, keep wiping the eye and giving her soothing eye drops. If the eye is not back to normal after 5-6 days, you will have to try and get her seen by a vet.

Hi and thanks for posting on Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Severe ocular infections can lead to damage of the eye if not treated. Unless this issue has been going on for quite some time, waiting an additional 2 days shouldn't be a big issue. There is not a lot you can do for this from home. You can go to your local pet store and get a small bottle of saline eye rinse, but he will likely need to be on antibiotics if an infection is present. I hope this helps!
