Is it safe to use flea and tick drops with a tick collar on my dog?

Cats can be very sensitive to flea treatment products, and toxicity can occur from using two products at the same time. Because of that, it's not safe to give the flea drops and then put on the flea collar. Typically the flea drops should be enough to protect Tinkerbell from fleas, and I recommend using only that. I would advise against this. Advocate is fairly complete except tick prevention. If you have concerns about ticks, I recommend to switch to something like Simparica and Intercepor or you can use a collar specifically for ticks called a Preventic collar. Hello! You should be able to use both Frontline and either a Preventic or Seresto collar, but only one collar. There should not be any interactions between any of the medications. I think using two preventives for hiking in the northeastern US is an excellent idea to prevent ticks and tick borne disease. I would also recommend looking into getting Winston vaccinated for Lyme disease as an additional precaution. I hope this is helpful! It would not be recommended to do this, as a Seresto collar and Advantage II have the same active ingredients - so you would essentially be giving your dog a double dose of medication, which may not be safe. It shouldn't be necessary to use two different flea control medications as long as you are using an appropriate size/dose for your dog's weight. If you are already using one of these products and are finding that it is not effective, I would recommend switching to a different flea medication entirely, such as Nexgard or Bravecto - these are both much more effective in my experience.

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! In order to kill the ticks with Simparica, the tick has to but the dog and they will die with in a day. If you are finding engorged ticks then the product isn't working and you should stop using it. If you are finding attached dead or slowly moving neurologic ticks then they are dead or dying from the Simparica. If you feel you need the Seresto Collar I would just use that and stop the Simparica. The collar repels and the tick doesn't have to attack to be killed. But yes the 2 can be used together but I see no point if you think the Simparica isn't working, why waste your money on 2 products? Good luck!

The Seresto flea/tick collar is the only one on the market that is safe and effective - the others, including Adams, are often dangerously toxic for the dog and not effective at all for fleas in my experience. Advantix is definitely a better choice than PetArmor, but the most effective option available for fleas and ticks currently would be an oral medication like Nexgard or Bravecto. I would recommend getting a prescription from your veterinarian for one of these medications, if possible - this will eliminate the need for any topical medication or flea collars, and will also work much better.
