Is it safe to use cat flea drops and a flea collar at the same time?

I would recommend only using one. I prefer topical over collars since not all collars work. There are plenty of topical medications for cats that help prevent fleas and ticks. Some topical you can apply monthly while others like Bravecto can be applied once every 3 months. Without knowing what type of collar and which fipronil product you are using I wouldn't use them together. I would also wait 48 hours before and after a bath before putting topical medication on. Yes, you can use both of these flea preventatives simultaneously. However, flea collars are notoriously ineffective, so I never recommend them under any circumstance. If Cali is currently having an issue with fleas, you can instead give her an oral Capstar ( http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?pcatid=10902 ) to kill adult fleas within 30 minutes, and use the Advantage to prevent fleas for a full month. If Cali is not currently experiencing a flea infestation, Advantage alone should be sufficient. Good luck! :-)

Both products essentially do the same thing although they use different active ingredients so I'm not sure why you want to use both. That would be overkill and you could overdose your dog. I would not recommend repeating treatment with similar ingredients for at least a month, especially in cats which are very sensitive to overdosing. It is important to treat bedding and sleeping areas to kill eggs and larvae before they hatch. If problems persist contact your vet for oral treatment such as comfortis

These flea collars are extremely toxic and one should not use them anymore. Tetrachlorvinphos toxic to the nervous system and likely to cause cancer. The collar could indeed have caused these signs in your kitty. There are quite a few flea and tick medications on the market, such as spot-ons that are not detrimental to the health of your cat. Here are safe flea products: Spot-ons and/or chews Advantage, Advantix Advantage Multi (Advocate in the UK) Frontline (ticks as well) Bravecto spot on (ticks as well) - for cats, Simparica, Nexgard Revolution (stronghold in the UK) Tablets: comfortis (will only kill fleas once) Collar: Seresto (ticks as well)

While some flea collars are generally safe to combine with topical flea medication, I do not recommend using either of those products on Khloe. Both are poor quality products that do not work well at all, and Hartz is especially poor. Many animals have had bad reactions to Hartz products, as well as still having problems with fleas. I can give you the flea treatment program I always recommend, which works very well and is safe for Khloe. First, I would give her Capstar. It's a one time pill that starts killing fleas within 30 minutes. Then follow up with a spot on treatment, such as Advantage or Revolution. This is a treatment that has to be used once a month. You will also have to disinfect the environment. Wash her bedding in hot soapy water, and vacuum the furniture and carpet surfaces. You can use a spray to kill fleas in the house, such as Indorex, or a flea bomb would work well to kill the fleas in the home. I hope this helps!

The manufacturers state that they do not have data on using two or more flea products at the same time, hence they consider that as potentially dangerous. So, if Seresto is not working for Spike, you need to take it off and start giving Capstar (or any other new flea treatment) after 2-3 days.
