Which dog spot-on is best for fleas: Vectra 3D, Effitix, or Advantix?

The Seresto flea/tick collar is the only one on the market that is safe and effective - the others, including Adams, are often dangerously toxic for the dog and not effective at all for fleas in my experience. Advantix is definitely a better choice than PetArmor, but the most effective option available for fleas and ticks currently would be an oral medication like Nexgard or Bravecto. I would recommend getting a prescription from your veterinarian for one of these medications, if possible - this will eliminate the need for any topical medication or flea collars, and will also work much better.

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Lupin. I recommend using Vectra 3D. This is a topically applied medication. The pests are repelled or killed on contact. This means the pet does not need to be bit for the medication to work as is the case with oral medications. It is a broad spectrum product including repelling mosquitos. Ticks can be difficult to manage - even with some of these high-quality preventatives! Instead of using the Vectra 3D and Seresto products, consider using an oral flea/tick preventative, such as Nexgard or Bravecto. In my experience, these products seem to be more effect for both flea and tick prevention, but both are prescription based. If you prefer using topical preventatives for Orion, Advantix is another option that I tend to prefer. I would not recommend using additional topical sprays while he is also receiving the topical Vectra 3D. While all of these products are labeled for tick prevention, in reality, they can take a bit of time to work and actually kill the tick. If you find ticks that are attached to Orion, be sure to remove them with all of their head and mouthparts. Ticks need to be attached for around 24+ hours in order to transmit disease.

In my opinion and that of many of my class mates is that Frontline is starting to fail and all of us are seeing flea infestation breakthroughs from it. It personally happened to all of my pets over one year ago. I used Frontline for years without problems then the summer of 2016 changed. All 3 dogs and one cat had flea problems. I went to another product (Bravecto) and the problem dissolved after one dose so I know it wasn't some horrible environmental problem. I like Vectra 3D because it has a repellent nature to it. It is becoming increasing important for heartworm protection also since it can repel mosquitoes. We are starting to see heartworm resistance in the gulf states and it's not that people are giving the heartworm pills. There is actual resistance in some mosquitoes to heartworm pills and pairing the heartworm pills up with a topical flea/tick with repellent characteristics is being advised in the deep south to combat the problem. There are many good flea and tick preventatives on the market. My first choice is Bravecto which is a chewable tablet that lasts 3 months. This product requires a prescription. If you're looking for something over the counter I prefer the Seresto collar which lasts 8 months. Both products are good for fleas and ticks

I prefer spot-ons and chews over collars. The only collar I would recommend is Seresto. This, in my opinion would be superior to Frontline, as in many areas there are resistances to Frontline already.

Congratulations on your new dog! I like Revolution if you are looking for a topical product. It consistently works well and is well tolerated. If you like the idea of an oral product better, I like Trifexis (it’s another all in one product). Sometimes though the pets can smell the Trifexis and they won’t eat it.
