Choosing flea, tick, heartworm meds: Revolution, Advantix, Heartgard?

Heartgard and interceptor are equal. It is personal preference for your dog and you. Heartgard is a larger, chunky chewable which some smaller dogs may not like to where interceptor is small pile that can be hidden in a treat and raiser to give pickier dogs. Bravecto is a better product as it is a pill form and last for 3 months but frontline is a topical that last for a single month

Simparica Trio is a similar medication that treats fleas, ticks, heartworms, roundworms, and hookworms. It's a chewable tablet rather than a topical, but is easy to give and can help bridge the gap until you're back on your regular medication. It is best to confirm it is safe to give with your vet if Mia has any other underlying health conditions or issues, and your vet can order it or provide a prescription to an online service such as Chewy.

You are very welcome! For most pets, Revolution is fine for heartworm prevention unless your area is experiencing very high levels of heartworm exposure or immunity to the product. Call your veterinarian and ask if there is a specific reason that he/she recommends an additional heartworm prevention. It’s always best to gather all the information! I like Advantage. I use it on my dogs with great success. Keep in mind as well you have to disinfect the environment, as fleas live there and not on the animal. They only jump on the animal to feed. Wash Mocha's bedding in hot soapy water, and vacuum the furniture and carpet surfaces. You can use a spray to kill fleas in the house, such as Indorex, or a flea bomb would work well to kill the fleas in the home. I hope this helps!

Great question! Nexgard kills the deer tick as well as fleas and American dog tick/rocky mountain tick, and lone star tick. It is an oral pill as well, so I would us that for your dogs. Because Nexgard doesn't protect again heartworms, you will have to give your dogs Heartgard as well, which is available by prescription only from the vet. Advantix is a spot on treatment that treats the same things as Nexgard, but you would also have to use Heartgard as well for the heartworms. These two medications (Nexgard and Advantix) are for dogs only. As for the cats, Simparica prevents five types of ticks, so this may work for your cats :-)

You have a few options. If you want an all in one product, try Trifexis. Otherwise you will two separate products. You might try Simparica (fleas/ticks) and Interceptor (heartworm/intestinal worms). I also recommend to have Sparky's stool checked for worms in case that was a round worm. For that parasite, pets are often given bolus dewormings since people can get that worm. That will clear up the infection faster.
