My dog has tick prevention, but I keep finding ticks. Is it working?

Of all topical medications, I generally find K9 Advantix II to be the most effective. Of the two you mentioned, I find Vectra 3D to be more effective. There are also oral flea/tick preventatives (Nexgard and Bravecto) available that seem to be superior to any topicals.

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Buddy. I prefer to use a topical liquid for flea and tick prevention. The reasoning being this will prevent the spread of disease from ticks. All oral products require the patient to actually be bitten by the tick for the prevention to work. The bite is how tick born diseases are spread. My favorite product is Vectra 3D. It also repels mosquitoes so it works in conjunction with your dog's monthly heartworm prevention. This is a huge benefit. It is also effective against lice, certain types of mites and biting flies. Unfortunately, natural products are not going to effective. The diseases spread by ectoparasites can be a serious threat to your pet. A lot of times there are manufacturer rebates available when you purchase Vectra 3D. I hope this information helps!

In my opinion and that of many of my class mates is that Frontline is starting to fail and all of us are seeing flea infestation breakthroughs from it. It personally happened to all of my pets over one year ago. I used Frontline for years without problems then the summer of 2016 changed. All 3 dogs and one cat had flea problems. I went to another product (Bravecto) and the problem dissolved after one dose so I know it wasn't some horrible environmental problem. I like Vectra 3D because it has a repellent nature to it. It is becoming increasing important for heartworm protection also since it can repel mosquitoes. We are starting to see heartworm resistance in the gulf states and it's not that people are giving the heartworm pills. There is actual resistance in some mosquitoes to heartworm pills and pairing the heartworm pills up with a topical flea/tick with repellent characteristics is being advised in the deep south to combat the problem. So yes, Vectra 3D is a good product. Good luck with Dolce. Hope this helps.

Please do not feed garlic to your dog, it can cause blood disease in dogs! Here are instructions for flea prevention: Unfortunately fleas only hop on the body of your pet when they want to feed, then they hop off again and stay in your pet's environment. So you need to treat all pets in the household as well as the environment (which contains the fleas, their eggs and larvae). Flea treatment:  1) Get some flea medication such as a Flea spray or a spot on from a pet shop or your veterinarian and apply monthly 2) get flea powder, put some in your vacuum cleaner bag and vacuum your house and furniture and also non-carpeted areas frequently to remove flea larvae and eggs which live off house dust., Dispose of the bag in the trash outside. Hot-wash all the pet's bedding, If you do this diligently for a few months you will get rid of the fleas. Flea products: Spot-ons and/or chews Advantage, Advantix Advantage Multi (Advocate in the UK) Frontline (ticks as well) Bravecto spot on (ticks as well) - for cats, in tablet form for dogs Simparica, Nexgard Revolution (stronghold in the UK) Tablets: comfortis (will only kill fleas once) Collar: Seresto (ticks as well)

It depends on the brand of collar, as I find most of them to be pretty poor. The only one I really like is Seresto. But if you are still finding ticks, I'd say this isn't working. I recommend a spot on treatment like Revolution, it's excellent. I hope this helps!

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Lupin. I recommend using Vectra 3D. This is a topically applied medication. The pests are repelled or killed on contact. This means the pet does not need to be bit for the medication to work as is the case with oral medications. It is a broad spectrum product including repelling mosquitos. This helps with heartworm prevention as well. I hope this information helps!

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! You can't combine the other orals with the one you gave. Personally I would just wait the 2 weeks. You can use the Seresto collar but that lasts for 8 months so I see not point then of using a new product. All the topical medications last 1 month. It would just save you money to wait and check him over well for ticks. I like Nexgard, Bravecto or Simparica for the oral flea and tick and the Seresto collar. I wish you the best!
