My dog still has fever & vomiting after vet injections. What now?

If he is still running a fever after all of this, I would get him seen by an emergency veterinarian to be safe. He may need something stronger such as a steroid to help with a potential reaction. There may be something else going on such as an infection as well. I would get him seen as soon as possible. I hope this helps!

Poor Bear! If he's already had some medication for vomiting at the vet's and you've tried switching back to his old food and he's still vomiting today, then I would definitely take him back in for a recheck visit. It sounds like he'll probably need some diagnostics such as blood work and x-rays to help determine what's wrong.

If it has been longer than this, it is likely unrelated to the vaccines that a good reason to have Saski evaluated by your veterinarian to ensure that there is not something else going on. Good luck! The injection is called Cerenia, if this didn't help then you must take him back to the vet for a blood test and xray/ulrasound, he might be suffering from either a foreign body in the GI tract or severe gastrointestinal infection.

It sometimes takes longer than 12 hours for a sick animal to get better. You will still have to try and hand feed her and syringe water into her if possible. If she does not start drinking after 24 hours, then your veterinarian may have to put her on iv fluids. Once she is hydrated she will likely feel less nauseous and will start drinking again and hopefully eating. Keep her comfortable, and tend to her like you would tend to a sick child. Give it some time.

Oh my. Poor guy. If he has a fever this can be caused by a bacterial or viral infection (i.e. Parvovirus if he isn't fully vaccinated). I would have him tested for parvovirus first and if that comes up negative he needs full panel bloodwork and a urinalysis. to fully evaluate him. He should be on antibiotics and fluid therapy to help bring down his fever. He also needs anti-vomit medication to prevent him from becoming dehydrated due to excessive vomiting. If his condition has not improved within 24-48 hrs, then you should consider having him hospitalized so that he can get around the clock care and treatment. Poor guy. I do hope that your pup Shadow is able to make a full and speedy recovery from his illness. For tonight you can try feeding him some slghly warmed up cans of baby food (meat and vegetables or squash) to try to entice him to eat. Only a small amount at a time to hopefully not induce his vomiting. Best wishes and take care.

Hello, sorry to hear about Sooky. There are some medications that may be administered to your dog to stop nausea. However these medications require a prescription or injection. Maropitant and ondansetron are the most common, but other medications do exist. Otherwise, you may give him a day or so with a bland diet to rest his GI tract. This may include plain white rice, skinless and boneless boiled chicken. If he does have nausea however, he may not want to eat. Offer small amounts at first. The high temperature if associated with his vaccines should decrease on its own within 1-2 days. Monitor for worsening signs, and if you note any then contact your veterinarian immediately.
