This is a sign of conjunctivitis. It may have developed from allergies or an eye irritant like smoke or pollen. You can wipe the discharge from the eyes with a warm wet cloth, and use sterile eye drops to flush out the discharge. Since the discharge is pussy Pepper has an infection that would clear up more quickly with prescription eye ointment. I recommend an exam with your veterinarian. They will examine the eyes and may stain them to check for a corneal injury and also will check to see if Pepper has normal tear production. Dogs with dry eyes can be more prone to conjunctivitis. Eyes are sensitive. If the saline solution does not help after 24 hours, it is unlikely to help. At this point, Tyson needs to be examined by the veterinarian today. You could rinse his eye out with an eye wash or some artificial tears, like GenTeal drops. If his signs continue then he needs to be examined by a vet to determine the cause. He could have an infection, scratch, ulcer, or foreign material in his eye and your vet can stain his eye to evaluate his cornea for damage. Poor girl. White discharge from the eyes can indicate either a dry eye conditon or the beginning of an allergic conjunctivitis (allergies causing inflammation of the eyes). If she is also sneezing and rubbing her eyes from irritation, then chances are she has allergic conjunctivitis. You can discuss with your vet about trying some over the counter or vet prescribed antihistamine medication to try and help with this. Your vet may want to examine her first just to make sure we are on the right track with her diagnosis and treatment recommendations. In the meantime I would continue to apply warm compresses on her eyelids (while holding them closed) and Henry cleansing the discharge as needed to prevent irritation around her eyes. Hello and thank you for your questions about Rouge. If the discharge is yellow or green, this often indicates an eye infection. In general, if the discharge continues for longer than 3 days, if she is squinting, if she is pawing or rubbing at the eye or if the eye is very red, she should go to the veterinarian. If the discharge is white, opaque or greyish, it could indicate allergies. You may try a trial of over the counter antihistamine like Benedryl or Zyrtec. Don't use any type of eye drop for allergies for humans in dogs (these often burn) but you can use an artificial tear (like Genteal) 3 times a day to see if it helps. If there is not a change after 7 days, I also recommend to have Rouge examined as she may need testing of her tear glands and maybe stronger medication. Continue to gently clean around the eyes. I woulIt sounds as your dog is suffering from an eye infection, it is relatively common in dogs. you will need to take him to the vet the first chance you get, the vet will check the eyes, if it is indeed a simple eye infection your vet will prescribe an antibiotic eye drops that will probably solve the problem in no time.d not recommend to clean it with salt water.
