My dog has a small eyelid spot. When should I worry and see a vet?

This looks like an infected meibomian cyst. These are common and usually don't cause a problem. If it enlarges or causes excessive tearing or eye irritation then we usually remove them. Do keep an eye on the black spot as sometimes these can become cancerous. From the photo though it's nothing to be overly concerned about. Should it change or enlarge please get a veterinary exam. Hello. From this picture that could be a small scar, could be a small bit of hair loss from many causes (scratching, infection, etc), could be inflammation of the gland, or could just be a wart or something. I would just keep an eye on it and if it bothers him or grows or changes, or if he starts squinting, to have it seen by a vet. Good luck with him!

Fortunately, the majority of eyelid masses on dogs are benign Meibomian gland adenomas. As long as the mass does not start growing significantly, bleeding, or causing Murphy to scratch, continue monitoring progression of these masses with photos to show to your vet in August. If anything changes significantly or seems to bother Murphy, he should go in for an exam sooner. Since he has fear-based aggression (very common!) and will need to have his eyes thoroughly examined, consider calling his vet to ask if he should have a sedative at home prior to his exam both to decrease stress and allow for a more thorough exam. Hello. That looks like a small growth/tumor that originated in a tear-producing gland. Without an actual biopsy, we cannot say the exact type or if it is benign/malignant. However, the majority are Meibomian Gland Adenomas and typically are benign. They can bleed, cause inflammation or infection and, if large enough, can irritate or even scratch the cornea. Given the appearance of this lesion, the fact that they're on both eyes, and Honey's young age, my main suspicion is that these may be infected glands within the eyelids. Other possible causes include various congenital issues or infectious diseases. As long as Honey isn't squinting, rubbing at her eyes, or showing eye redness or discharge, it should be fine to wait until tomorrow to have these lesions evaluated. However, if she's rubbing her eyes or squinting, I think it would be prudent to have her examined right away since eye issues can dramatically change very quickly. Until you have her examined by her vet, you can try applying gentle warm water washcloth compresses to her eyes several times per day if she'll tolerate it. I hope that everything goes well!

That looks like it could be an infection, skin mites or perhaps ringworm (which humans can get). I recommend to have him examined by the veterinarian if the lesion does not start getting better on it's own within the next few days. May sure he cannot rub the area and don't put anything on the area since it's so close to his eye. You can also have him examined sooner and not wait. This is often differentiated by a test called a fine needle aspirate (FNA) which is a pain free, inexpensive and easy procedure which in most cases will help reach a diagnosis. This will likely require sedation because of the location of the growth. Sometimes a biopsy is needed for a definitive diagnosis.
