My dog has a light, raised spot above his eye. What should I do?

Hello. That looks like a small growth/tumor that originated in a tear-producing gland. Without an actual biopsy, we cannot say the exact type or if it is benign/malignant. However, the majority are Meibomian Gland Adenomas and typically are benign. They can bleed, cause inflammation or infection and, if large enough, can irritate or even scratch the cornea. They can be a nuisance. Monitor for squinting, pain, rubbing the eye or chronic discharge. Some need to be removed surgically. Thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach

Without a photo it would be hard to say. Irritation from rubbing, minor allergies, etc can all be potential causes. If the area becomes bothersome, doesn't heal, changes in size or shape, becomes red, or oozes debris, then it should be checked out by your vet.

Looks like that could be a little scar on the cornea (clear part of the front of the eye). If he is actively seeming bothered by it, please take him to your vet in case he has corneal ulcer currently. If it is not bothering him now, it could be a scar from a small corneal ulcer he had in the past. It could also be a lipid or cholesterol deposit, though those are usually very central on the cornea. If it is not associated with an itch or eye discharge, it is ok to monitor for now as it will likely improve on its own. That lesion could be many things including an abrasion that is healing, a bacterial infection or something like ringworm (which humans can get). That's good that she is not scratching at it. You may monitor it at home. If it is not getting better after a week, if it starts looking worse or if she starts rubbing at it, have Bella examined by the veterinarian. Unfortunately, the photo is too blurry to see the lesion properly. Dogs can get eye lid tumors, stys and infected glands. If the lesion is still present in two weeks or if it starts looking worse, have Freddie examined by the veterinarian. I hope this helps.

Judging from the photos and seeing that Loki is very young, this is likely an insect bite, cyst or pimple and nothing to be concerned about.
