Why is my dog's eye swollen shut and has bumps under his fur?

If this happened within a few hours, then allergies would be my first suspicion. However, it appears that there are areas of hair loss around the eyes and on the face. If this has been more gradual (like in the span of a week or more), then my top suspicion is demodectic mange. This is a microscopic mite that is normally found on the skin and can get out of control in certain conditions. You will have to take Koho to the vet in order to get this diagnosed and adequately treated. It could be that Lovey is suffering from an allergic reaction causing these swollen bumps around his body. It could be an environmental allergy causing these bumps, but without seeing him in person, I can't say for certain. I am concerned he now has a swollen eye, as he could have injured his eye or have an eye infection. To answer your question, yes definitely take him into the vet today. The eye is such a delicate and important structure that any problem with it is considered an emergency. That's because leaving it untreated can lead to vision loss. He looks to be generally itchy. I'm suspicious of allergies causing this, but it could be due to mange, fleas, or other causes. The eye may be a separate problem, or related to the allergies. Without seeing it, it's difficult to tell the cause of this, or the severity, but the fact that it's swollen shut warrants a visit to the vet. I recommend having him seen by a vet within the next 24 hours to prevent serious complications with the eye. The vet can also help narrow-down the cause of the itch and provide medication to help give him some relief. One thing you can do for itchy skin, is give a bath with cool water using an oatmeal or aloe shampoo. You can get these shampoos at the pet store. For now, you can flush the eye with normal saline. Saline flush can be bought at the pharmacy, or supermarket in the eye care section. Flush the eye 3-4 times daily and gently wipe away the discharge with a warm/moist cotton or cloth. It looks like an infection around the eyelid. This can happen if the eye has been excessively moist lately. The other common cause of this hair loss around the eye is a mite known as Demodex. This is normally seen in puppies. Sport looks like he's a senior, so it's less likely, but still possible. The cause of the swelling can usually be identified by a veterinarian. They can look for the mite and treat for infection. The vet will also be able to give medication that will take down the swelling, which is much needed now. For now, it's best if you can flush the area with saline. You can find this at the local pharmacy or supermarket in the eye care section. Flush for 15 seconds twice a day. This will give some relief and help to treat/prevent infection. I recommend taking Sport to the vet within the next few days to keep this from getting worse.

Oscar needs to be examined by the veterinarian today. That swelling most likely indicates an allergic reaction, a deep skin infection or cellulitis. All of these conditions require treatment.
