My dog has eye swelling & face bumps. Allergies or something else?

Hi there and thank you for using pet coach to address your concern. It is difficult to say what the problem could be without pictures but there could be 2 separate problems. There could be an eye infection or trauma to the eye and the skin may habe an infection or some other skin condition. Any time I am dealing with an eye, I usually recommend having a veterinarian examine this to ensure there is nothing serious going on, especially if you are unable to get a good look at the eye itself. I would recommend having your vet check this out just to be on the safe side. For the skin, I would recommend starting a shampoo such as Douxo PS calm shampoo and bathe twice weekly until resolved. Poor Levi.....his eyelid is really swollen! Since the bumps just appear they could be hives from some type of allergic reaction. Since his eyelid so so swollen and red, it would be a good idea to have him examined by a vet for treatment. An anti-histamine and corticosteroid may be needed to help. Hope he gets better soon!

If Riley has environmental allergies and his skin is easily irritated it is possible that he is exhibiting similar symptoms on the skin around his eyes. Some dogs show signs of skin irritation in this location. It is also possible that this is a growth on his eyelid. Dogs can develop growths, however most are benign and unlikely to cause a problem. I would recommend having Riley seen by your veterinarian so that they can examine his eyes and get a better idea of what is going on. Hope this helps!

This is probably an allergic reaction due to an insect bite or a plant outside. those reactions tend to resolve within 48 hours without treatment. if the swelling, itchiness or vomiting do not resolve or if your dog is lethargic, take her to the vet in order to get an antihistamine injection.
