Dog attacked: Can I glue his wound to stop him from licking?

It will heal faster and with a less chance for infection if you take him to the Vet. If you absolutely can not take him, the fur should be shaved away, the wound cleaned with a mild soap and water twice daily and a triple antibiotic applied twice daily after cleaning. He would need to wear an E-collar to prevent licking or a T-shirt. You can also call your local SPCA and see if they have a low cost Veterinary Clinic. Wound dehiscence is probably one of the most frustrating things to treat for that same reason of sometimes taking longer to heal than typical. However, it is indicated to continue treating this through a veterinarian as there are really no at home treatments for something like this. Having said that, it is important to continue to use an e-collar to avoid self-trauma and one thing you can do is limit her activity as much as possible as often times it is the continued motion what affects healing the most. Unfortunately, you cannot use glue for this deep of a wound. Buddy needs veterinary care where they clean up the wound and staple or suture it closed. He then needs antibiotics and pain medication. They would be able to check the extent of the wounds and see what would be best to treat them. What you can do in the meantime is use an e-collar in the to prevent further injury. Thank you for submitting your question regarding Reese. I definitely recommend that he sees a veterinarian this weekend when you are able. He appears to a deep wound. He will likely need the hair shaved around the area to better investigate the opening. Oral antibiotics and a cleansing solution will likely be needed as well. In the meantime, place an E-collar on him so that he does not lick the area. Any time the dogs are unsupervised, they will need to be kept separate. The dog other licking the wound will make it worse. Be sure to keep the area clean and dry. I hope this information helps!

I’m so sorry to hear that. Clean the wound now with water and mild soap. Get some saline wound wash (PLAIN SALINE) from a pharmacy and use the wound wash to thoroughly wash the wound twice a day. I would recommend that you use a [wound care product](https://www.petco.com/shop/en/petcostore/product/vetericyn-plus-antimicrobial-pet-wound-and-skin-hydrogel) daily as well. It would be best to keep momma dog from licking it, and the only way to do that is to place an e-collar (cone) on the momma dog so she can’t reach to lick it. Unfortunately, there isn’t anything you can safely give over the counter for pain. Please do not give aspirin or any other baby formulated pain relievers. This wound is at high risk of getting infected, and at such a young age that could become very serious very quickly. I understand if you need to try to manage the wound at home for financial reasons, but if the skin around the wound is getting increasingly inflamed, or if the puppy isn’t eating or is acting lethargic, you need to try to arrange to get the puppy seen by a veterinarian somehow. Otherwise he could become septic and this could result in death. As long as the pup is eating, is vocal and alert, it is reasonable to manage as described at home, but please keep a very close eye on this puppy. Thanks for asking PetCoach!

I recommend cleaning all of the wounds with hydrogen peroxide. Then apply a thin film of antibacterial ointment on them. Keep him quiet so he can rest and heal. Dog fight wounds get infected easily so please make sure to bring him right in tomorrow morning for treatment.
