Hello. While it is very unlikely that your dog will contract any infectious disease by licking the eyes of the blind dog, I would try & discourage this. It’s possibly but unlikely if you practice good hygiene. Keep Jo separated from the cats. Wash your hands after handling the cats. Wash you hands before handling Jo. Keep the Jo in an area where she cannot come in close contact with the faces of the cats and keep the cats away so they cannot rub their faces on the cage bars. Thanks for reaching out about Fluffy and including a photo. Ocular secretions can become thicker and not drain through the lacrimal duct, when certain conditions arise. This could be an infection, dental disease (affecting drainage), stress and other problems. Continue to wipe the eye area with a moistened clear wash cloth. If worsens, a veterinary visit is recommended to assess and provide a diagnostic/treatment plan. Remember, having your rabbit spayed is very important as rabbits have a high incidence of uterine neoplasia. Good luck.

If a dog is infected with an intestinal worm such as the roundworm, coming into contact with infected feces may increase risk of becoming infected with this parasite. Transmission is through the fecal-oral route, meaning you have to accidentally ingest infective round worm eggs. The parasite can migrate to organs including the eye which can lead to blindness. However terrifying this may sound, this is actually pretty rare in people in general, but does occur more often in small children and babies who tend to put a lot of things in their mouths and not wash their hands frequently. Having your pet dewormed regularly and getting their stools checked once or twice a year can help prevent this infection in both animals and people. Practicing good hygiene such as hand washing after cleaning up after your pet and certainly before eating dramatically reduces risk of infection. I hope this helps!

Poor Zoey! No, please don't put contact solution in her eye - this will not help to treat the problem, and may burn and cause additional discomfort. Brown or yellow discharge like this is usually a sign of an eye infection, or a corneal injury of some kind such as a scratch or ulcer. I would recommend taking Zoey to the vet today for an exam - he/she can use a special stain to check for any injuries to the eye, and will likely prescribe antibiotic eye drops or ointment to treat the problem.

it sounds like he has an infection so he should be examined by a vet for treatment. Your vet can determine the severity of the injury to his eyes and prescribe medications to help. He may need an antibiotic and an anti-inflammatory to treat an infection.
